In Tutschfelden, a marked circular trail, historic architecture and a garden come together. The Herbolzheim-Tutschfelden golf offering adds another distinctive element. When planning, you can choose between time outdoors, a look at the village’s history and other activities.

On Foot Through the Landscape

The Tutschfelden circular trail starts at the town hall and leads through woodland, into the Kahlenberg area, along Holzweg and through vineyards. Along the way, views open up towards the foothills of the Black Forest. The marked route is 9.04 kilometres long, is rated easy and takes approximately two and a half hours. Sturdy footwear is recommended; the route and conditions may change.

Starting at the town hall makes the circular trail a clearly defined way to explore the surrounding area on foot. Woodland sections, vineyards and viewpoints offer different impressions of the landscape. When planning your time outdoors, you can use the approximate duration as a guide and take current trail conditions into account before setting off.

Church and Garden in Tutschfelden

The Protestant parish church was built in 1806 in the Weinbrenner style. Its interior includes pieces from the former Ettenheimmünster Monastery. There is also an organ renovated in 1807 by Blasius Schaxel, an organ builder from Herbolzheim. The building date, style and furnishings make a visit to the church different in focus from the circular trail: here, local and architectural history take centre stage.

Garten Hohenstein is located on former vineyard land and is described as a naturalistic perennial garden covering around 3,800 square metres. Ornamental trees, spacious paths, a pond, vegetable beds and seating areas shape the grounds. The invitation to enjoy the garden is a reason in its own right to visit; however, access may depend on arrangements with the owners or on open garden days. Plan your visit according to the available opportunities.

Golf as Another Activity

The Herbolzheim-Tutschfelden golf offering includes the public nine-hole Heckenrose course. It offers views of vineyards and the Black Forest. You can play the course without club membership or playing rights. This makes it different from a hike: the focus here is on a round of golf rather than a marked walking route. Check availability and conditions before visiting.

In the Wider Destination of Herbolzheim

Herbolzheim itself also has a distinctive architectural history. The town hall dates from the Baroque period, was remodelled in 1891 and acquired a Neo-Renaissance façade. The gatehouse on Hauptstraße was once the residential and administrative building of the Carl Kuenzer linen weaving mill, founded in 1834. Herbolzheim’s old townscape is also characterised by rural half-timbered buildings with gable porches and tall wine cellars dating from the 16th and 17th centuries, as well as Baroque townhouses. Their ornate portals date from the late Baroque and early Classicist periods, between 1740 and 1800.

A separate route in Herbolzheim leads from the market square to Heuberg Tower: the wine trail is about three kilometres long, well marked and equipped with information boards. It follows a medieval route to Ettenheim. Both the approximate length and the signposted stops are useful for finding your way.

Kirnburg Castle ruins lie above the Herbolzheim district of Bleichheim and include structural elements from the 12th-century Hohenstaufen period. The tourism office offers guided tours of the ruins for groups by arrangement. Bleichheim is also home to the estate of the Counts of Kageneck, with the Herrenmühle mill, manor house and tithe barn dating from 1590. The adjoining garden covers 2,400 square metres; families can visit, and groups may visit on request. Check the estate’s current opening hours before visiting.

For a playful introduction to Herbolzheim’s history, there are Faustus and Clothilde. The fairytale trail there is a labyrinthine woodland path about 500 metres long, featuring wooden fairytale figures, a climbing dragon and a troll swing. These destinations in Herbolzheim add further themes to your own selection in Tutschfelden, without equating the church, circular trail or garden in Tutschfelden with them.
