Langenau brings together nature observation and themes related to water and prehistory. There are several different options to shape your stay: BioSpaz, the Donauried, a spring area, an exhibition about groundwater and two museums. If you are looking for a hotel in Langenau, you can first consider whether you would like to spend more time enjoying nature or visiting exhibitions and collections. The following places help connect the themes of your stay with specific destinations.

Nature among walking trails, protected areas and springs

BioSpaz is a 2.4-kilometre biodiversity walking trail. An accessible alternative route is also available. Depending on your walking pace and how you use the interactive features, allow around 1.5 hours to walk the BioSpaz. If you would like to spend time exploring the interactive features, factor this into your day’s plans. Guided tours of BioSpaz are offered monthly from April to October; advance registration is not required. If you plan to join a tour, check the seasonal dates before your trip.

In the Donauried, the Danube passes through the nature and bird reserve in Langenau. Picnic islands, a panoramic swing and an observation tower invite you to explore the area’s diverse nature. The two nature attractions also differ in how you might plan your visit: the BioSpaz’s route length and approximate walking time are useful guides, while the Donauried’s appeal centres on the protected area, the river and the opportunities for exploration mentioned here.

Another natural attraction is located 500 metres northeast of Langenau’s parish church. The Löffelbrunnen spring, a spring-fed lake and other spring outlets emerge in landscaped, park-like grounds. You can also observe wildlife in the townscape: on a stroll through the town centre, you can spot more than 100 white storks nesting on many rooftops. The population may change over time. Nature experiences range from springs in the grounds to wildlife watching on the rooftops.

Drinking water and the Swabian Jura

The Groundwater Experience at the Langenau waterworks is a 600-square-metre exhibition. It traces the journey of drinking water from a raindrop through the limestone of the Swabian Jura to the tap. It also explains the connection between the history of the Swabian Jura and the element of water. The exhibition thus connects the landscape of the Jura with the journey of drinking water. While BioSpaz explores biodiversity along a walking trail and the springs reveal specific places where water emerges, the Groundwater Experience takes the water theme from raindrop to tap.

Museums on Kirchgasse

There are two museums on Kirchgasse: the local history museum is at Kirchgasse 4, and the Museum of Prehistory and Early History is at Kirchgasse 9. The Museum of Prehistory and Early History displays prehistoric finds from the caves of the Lone Valley, including replicas of well-known Ice Age figurines. If you are particularly interested in prehistory, this collection offers a specific focus for your visit. The street numbers make it easy to tell the two buildings apart. Check the current opening hours before planning a museum visit.
