Hotels in Séguret
Accommodation in Seguret
Séguret combines historic buildings and lanes with a wine-growing landscape that stretches across the commune. This gives you several specific themes to consider when planning your trip: the village’s architecture, routes through the landscape, wine and olive products, and seasonal cultural events. The details below will help you choose the focus of your stay in Séguret.
Buildings and Lanes in Séguret
The Fontaine des Mascarons is a 17th-century fountain listed as a “Monument Historique.” Its round basin and column with four mascarons make it a striking example of the village’s fountain architecture. The belfry also dates from the 17th century. It has a single hand; its bell, installed in 1660, still strikes the hours.
The Église St Denis has an earlier building history: it was first built in the 10th century and expanded in the 13th century. Several additions were made in the 17th and 18th centuries, adding a side aisle. The Rue des Poternes offers a different view of the historic village: this winding, cobbled street runs through Séguret and preserves several old houses. Together, the fountain, belfry, church and lane offer different insights into the village’s architectural history, without reducing it to a single historic monument.
Wine-Growing Landscape and Regional Produce
Séguret’s vineyards stretch across the commune below the Dentelles de Montmirail. Covering nearly 700 hectares, they account for about one-third of the commune’s area. This scale shows how winegrowing shapes the landscape. Domaine de Cabasse has a 34-hectare vineyard and produces eight cuvées, including Côtes-Rhône Villages Séguret. These details describe the estate and its products; they do not imply that tastings or tours are available.
There is a dedicated offering for olive products and santons: “Les 3 Souquets” combines a boutique featuring selected regional products related to the olive tree with a santon workshop. Guided tastings of olive oil and table olives are available there on request. The Cave des Vignerons de Roaix Séguret offers wine tastings and cellar tours by prior arrangement. If you plan to take part in one of these experiences, arrange a time with the relevant provider in advance.
Routes and Getting There
The “Chemin des chapelles en pays Ventoux” hiking trail, Route No. 4, runs from Crestet to Séguret. It is 15.1 kilometres long, with an elevation gain of 461 metres. Another steep walking trail leads uphill from Séguret to the remains of a tower and the fortification walls on the hill; there are viewpoints over the landscape along the way. The hiking trail is the longer route between Crestet and Séguret; the steep walk from Séguret climbs to the remains on the hill. Check the conditions for each route before setting out.
Autocars Lieutaud serves Séguret from Avignon and Vaison-la-Romaine. If you plan to use the bus for your journey, check the timetable before travelling. This lets you plan around the specific service without assuming a particular journey time or frequency.
Cultural Events Throughout the Year
At Christmas, Les Amis de Séguret organise the mystery play “Li bergié de Séguret.” A Christmas pastoral has been performed by residents of Séguret since 1960. The “Cacho Fio” ceremony also takes place on 24 December. These traditions give December a distinctive cultural character; check the dates of the relevant performances and events when planning your trip.
The local santon exhibition also runs seasonally: it takes place in July and August, and again in December and January. This gives you a cultural event to visit both in summer and around the turn of the year. Check the exact exhibition dates before visiting. If you choose Séguret primarily for its historic buildings, different themes will take centre stage than on a trip focused on winegrowing, regional products or seasonal events.
