Saint-Romain-En-Viennois lies on the left bank of the Lauzon, on the slope of Dévès hill and on the edge of the Mont Ventoux Regional Natural Park. The village is said to have a circular layout and is considered a medieval village in the Pays Vocones. The village centre, historic buildings, and visits focused on wine and local produce offer different ways to spend your stay.

Village Character and Buildings

The old village can be explored on foot from the mairie car park. Remains of the former fortifications can be seen in the defensive walls. The Eglise Sainte Anne was rebuilt in the 19th century. Its two bell towers are distinctly different: one is topped by a campanile, while the other has a pointed roof. The same church therefore offers both a historical connection and a clear architectural contrast.

Chapel and Getting Your Bearings

The Chapelle Notre-Dame-de-l’Annonciation stands opposite the village and was built on a rise of safre. A path alongside the wash house leads up to the chapel. Check the path conditions locally before setting out. The Aire de pique-nique du Lavoir is in the Lavoir car park beside an old wash house; check the information about this visitor facility again before your trip.

Wine, Tastings and Visits

Domaine Bernard offers a cellar tour by reservation. It introduces visitors to the winemaker’s work and includes a tasting of the wines and other products from the estate. The visitor offer includes the Côtes du Rhône, Côtes du Rhône Villages and Côtes du Rhône Villages Puyméras appellations, each as an AOP or AOC.

Brasserie Taka also offers a tour of its microbrewery, followed by a tasting of its products. An entry last updated in 2023 lists year-round tours by reservation: Wednesdays and Fridays from 4 to 7 pm, and Saturdays from 10 am to 12 pm. Confirm the times and arrangements for visits in advance. Valérie Fabre’s Oeno-Sophrology combines sophrology, sensory discovery and wine. It takes place amid Provençal vineyards with a view of Mont Ventoux; confirm availability before visiting.

Celebrations and a Puzzle Game

As part of the Sainte-Lucie celebrations, the Fête des lumières took place in both 2023 and 2025. A procession in honour of Saint Anne traditionally wound through the lanes in July 2025, following the “petit tour”; the route may change from one edition to the next. If you plan to travel for a festival, check the dates for your travel year.

The game Intrigue dans les villages offers another way to place the village in a wider context. It is a large-scale treasure hunt from village to village; solve the puzzle using a mission sheet, travel journal, map and other investigation aids. Saint-Romain-En-Viennois is the starting point. Ask the tourist office whether the current game materials are available.
