If you’re looking for a hotel in Aspres-Sur-Buëch, it’s worth considering the old town center, the trails along the Buëch and air sports as distinct themes for your trip. The village combines historic architecture with specific opportunities for walks and other activities.

Village Character and Architectural History

The medieval village tour presents Aspres-Sur-Buëch as a snail-shaped village arranged around a hill, crowned by the Tour de l’Horloge. The tower also serves as the community’s war memorial and was built in 1921. On the tour, you’ll encounter both the layout of the old village and a monument with a more recent history.

The Église Saint-Géraud is close to the houses and has no forecourt. It is a Romanesque parish church, first mentioned in 1516; the nave is vaulted with pointed Gothic arches. Individual visitors can tour the church free of charge and without a guide. As opening information varies by season, check visiting hours before your visit.

On La Grande Rue, you’ll find old façades with bricked-up pointed-arch arcades that point to former stables and shops. Several covered passages are built over by houses and lead to the houses at the foot of the hill. The village tour also includes a château, built in the 15th century by a prior from the Révillasc family and now in private ownership.

Village Tour and Trails Along the Buëch

The medieval village tour is less than 500 meters from an SNCF railway station. For orientation, a document about the tour in French and English is available at the Sources du Buëch tourist office. It allows you to combine a walk with a look at the lanes, passages and architectural history.

The Les bords du Buëch walking trail starts at the parking lot in front of the tourist office. Small paths follow the Buëch alongside irrigation canals and lead to former ice houses. The red Route N°4, La boucle de Saint-Apôtre, also starts at this parking lot. It offers views of the Dévoluy and, in the distance, the Vercors. The two routes have different highlights: along the Buëch, the focus is on the riverbanks, canals and former ice houses; on the Saint-Apôtre loop, it is on the views.

You don’t need to assume that the walk along the Buëch and the scenic loop form a single route: they are two named trails with the same stated starting point. When planning your time, you can decide whether you’d rather follow the river and canals or focus on views of the surrounding landscapes.
