Rognonas offers several distinct points of interest for a stay: local history, festival dates, the market, the landscape and routes. Saint-Pierre Church and the war memorial represent different historical themes; events provide seasonal highlights. The agricultural character of the floodplain and a named cycling route add to these attractions. If you are looking for a hotel, you can first consider whether festive traditions, cultural history, or the market and cycling route will shape your stay.

Church and Local History

The history of Saint-Pierre Church dates back to a 12th-century chapel: it stood on the site of the church and was dedicated by Pope Adrian IV to Saint-Pierre-ès-Lien. The church was rebuilt and extended in the 17th and 19th centuries. It has four side chapels; one contains a reconstruction of the Grotto of Lourdes. Saint-Pierre thus brings together the site’s earlier history, later building phases and a specific feature of its interior.

Another local landmark is the war memorial on Place de l’Église. It is topped by a bronze equestrian statue of Joan of Arc on a rearing horse; the depiction is considered unique in Provence. The arenas of Rognonas date from the 19th century.

Festivals and Regional Traditions

The festival dates offer specific guidance when planning your trip: Bon Ange takes place on the last weekend in April, Saint-Éloi on the second Sunday in July, and Saint-Roch on the Sunday after August 15. Check the dates for the relevant edition before travelling if a festival is a key factor in your stay. Rognonas also holds two festivals within the regional tradition of the carreto ramado.

Landscape, Agriculture and Market

Rognonas lies in a floodplain of sand and gravel shaped by recurring floods of the Durance. Its strong agricultural output includes lettuce, tomatoes, melons and zucchini; which crops take centre stage can change over time.

The market is held at Place du Marché in the town centre. Market stalls sell fruit and vegetables, as well as fish and seafood. This gives you a concrete impression of the different types of goods on offer there. Market arrangements and vendors’ offerings may change, so check the current details before your visit.

Cycling Route and Leisure Area

The V862 La Durance à vélo cycling route runs from Rognonas to Plan-d’Orgon. The greenway between Plan-d’Orgon and Rognonas follows the route of the former Plan-d’Orgon–Rognonas railway line. The V862 is defined by its stated endpoints, while the greenway is distinguished by its course along the former railway line.

The Parc des sports et de loisirs is located on the site of the former Domaine d’Oléon orchard and covers more than 4 hectares. As a public leisure area, it brings together a clearly defined present-day purpose and the site’s former use. Rognonas therefore offers cultural and historical themes as well as landscape- and leisure-related points of interest when planning a stay.
