Roquebillière lies at an altitude of 600 metres in the Vésubie Valley, at the gateway to the Parc national du Mercantour. If you are looking for a hotel in Roquebillière, its thermal tradition, cultural history, swimming options or nearby activities may shape your choice of destination.

Thermal Tradition and Biological Pool

Roquebillière’s thermal tradition dates back to Roman times. In the hamlet of Berthemont-les-Bains, which belongs to the commune, there is a thermal centre offering treatments and wellness facilities. The new centre replaced the former thermal baths in July 2016. As access is seasonal, it is advisable to check visiting times before your trip.

Another swimming option is the Bassin biologique de Roquebillière below the village, in a sports and leisure area. Covering 1,350 square metres, it is the first biological pool in the département to be open for swimming; it welcomes many visitors every summer. The water is cleaned by biofiltration, without chlorine or chemical treatment. The two options are therefore clearly distinct: the thermal centre is geared towards treatments and wellness, while the Bassin is described as a biological pool for swimming.

Industrial History and Architecture

La Bourgade was once Roquebillière’s industrial district. It had a forge, oil and grain mills, a sawmill and the commune’s first power station. A diversion canal from the Vésubie powered these facilities. The district’s history thus reveals another facet of the village beyond its thermal tradition.

The Fort de Gordolon, part of the Maginot Line, is associated with military history. The complex comprises three combat bunkers. Tours are available on selected dates by reservation; plan your visit around the relevant dates. Another historic building is the Église Saint-Michel-de-Gast. It was built in the early 16th century and has been listed as a historic monument since 22 November 1994.

Art, Market and Activities

The Galerie d’Arts vésubiens has been based in the village since 2010. The gallery is run by an artists’ collective with ties to the Vésubie Valley, comprising around thirty artists. The gallery presents changing exhibitions throughout the year. This means that contemporary art is also on offer alongside the historic buildings.

In 2026, the Petit Marché Rural takes place on the village square on Tuesday mornings from mid-March to mid-December. Local craftspeople and producers from the valleys exhibit there throughout the morning. For later trips, check the dates again. There are also road cycling and mountain biking routes around Roquebillière. Walking routes are available in the village and nearby; suitable topoguides can be obtained from the information office. The “My Adventure – Roquebillière” treasure hunt leads to the secrets of an ancient stele.

Seasonal Planning

Travel to the thermal centre is also tied to its opening period: line 94 runs to Roquebillière and Berthemont-les-Bains only while the centre is open. The published timetable is valid from 30 March to 31 October 2026; for later trips, check the seasonal service again. This connection is a specific planning consideration if the thermal centre is the focus of your stay.
