Valberg combines alpine skiing with nature interpretation, historic trails and astronomy. When choosing a hotel, it’s worth first deciding what you want to focus on during your trip: should your stay revolve mainly around the ski resort, or are you also interested in nature activities, local history and themed trails? These include both explicitly seasonal activities and facilities designed for year-round use.

Ski Resort and Starry Skies

Valberg’s ski resort has 90 kilometres of slopes for alpine skiing. As infrastructure details can change over time, it’s best to check the operator’s latest information when planning your season. Another facet of the destination is its designation as a Réserve Internationale de Ciel Etoilé, which Valberg has held since 2019. Alpine skiing and astronomy thus stand alongside one another as distinct themes to consider when planning your trip.

Discover Nature

The DOME, in the heart of Valberg, brings together facilities for culture, discovery and nature, and is designed for all audiences and seasons. The Maison du Parc in Valberg is also open year-round. It offers information about the wildlife and plant life of Parc National du Mercantour. Its offerings also include activities to raise awareness of nature and the environment, presentations and nature games.

These nature offerings have different areas of focus: the Maison du Parc centres on wildlife, plant life and environmental education, while the DOME combines nature with culture and discovery. If you don’t want to plan your stay around skiing alone, these facilities offer other specific themes to consider as you plan your trip.

Trails with History and Art

The Sentier des pionniers is a historic circular trail through Valberg. Illustrated information boards, original photographs and documents show how the destination has developed. The trail also includes an account of the church’s history and three belvederes designed as historic viewpoints. Local history, visual material and views are all part of the same circular trail.

The Sentier Planétaire has a different thematic focus. Along the trail, you can see monumental works associated with Land Art. Several stops have an educational, contemplative or relaxing focus and relate to astronomy. This means you can explore the theme of the starry sky not only through the destination’s designation, but also on a themed trail.

Outdoor Activities

Espace Valberg Aventure offers five courses among the trees in a larch landscape. Features include suspension bridges, zip lines, monkey bridges, swings, fixed beams and flexible ladders. The description covers several different types of obstacle; it does not specify which of them are suitable for individual visitors.

Valberg’s mountain biking trail network covers more than 100 kilometres of routes for different experience levels. As route information can change, check the latest trail map before setting out.

Two specific activities are also available in summer. The Luge d’été summer toboggan run has the Loup and Marmotte tracks; check local operating conditions before planning your visit. Trout fishing is available at Lac du Sénateur every summer. Check the latest access information and conditions there in advance as well.

Astronomy and Regional Context

Astro Valberg 2026 is a three-day astronomy event. The programme includes stands, games, exhibitions, observing sessions, planetarium sessions and night hikes. If the event is the reason for your trip, check the 2026 dates as you plan.

A historical connection to Valberg’s former district leads to Péone, where the Chapelle Saint-Jacques de la Rouille stands. It was built in the mid-17th century and is the oldest chapel in Valberg’s former district. For regional context, Valberg is about 1 hour and 15 minutes from the Côte d’Azur.
