Discover La Roche-Posay
Accommodation in La Roche-Posay
La Roche-Posay combines thermal spa history with culture, golf and trails along the Creuse. If you are planning a stay in the town, these different attractions can shape your itinerary: from the spa to historic buildings, walks and geocaching.
Thermal Spa History and Spa
The Thermes du Connétable opened in 1932 and are part of La Roche-Posay’s heritage, which has been strongly shaped by thermal spa culture. This heritage is also reflected in the Spa Source La Roche-Posay: set in natural surroundings, it offers targeted programmes for skin health and well-being. Facilities include a heated thermal-water pool, a hammam, indoor and outdoor saunas, a sensory shower and a heated whirlpool. The history of thermal spa culture and the spa facilities therefore offer two distinct ways to experience the town’s character.
Buildings, Gallery and Local History
The keep is the only surviving part of the castle and stands 25 metres high. On the ground floor, an exhibition spotlights a local craftsperson; in the Hall of Echoes, a video mapping is projected onto the vaulted ceiling. The Porte Bourbon also tells the story of the town: it is the only main entrance from the 12th century still standing today and, for many years, was the main urban passage between southern Touraine and La Roche-Posay.
Espace Mose is a municipal gallery managed by the VIBRATION association; admission is free. Each year, it presents a wide variety of artists. The Pavillon des Sources offers another way to discover the history of the thermal spa company and the cosmetics brand: an immersive visitor trail featuring posters, video archives and historical objects guides visitors through the company’s and brand’s history.
Golf and Time Outdoors
The 18-hole golf course in La Roche-Posay was designed by Jean Garaialde. It is 5,839 metres long, has a par of 72 and lies on lightly hilly, wooded terrain. The course is located within a 45-hectare biodiversity area and is presented as environmentally responsible. The length and par describe the course specifically, while its location in the biodiversity area adds a distinct landscape dimension.
On the banks of the Creuse, Parc des Confluences offers canoe hire, a boules court, permanent and temporary games, a relaxation area and a picnic area. The leisure facilities offer a range of options, from spending time by the river to playing games or taking a break at the picnic area. The Boucle Bordeaux trail passes through nature and along the quiet banks of the Creuse before ending in the medieval town.
Walks and Events
For a walk, Tèrra Aventura: “Un bain d'eau de velours” offers a 3-kilometre route in La Roche-Posay. The activity combines hiking and geocaching and can be done independently. The Boucle Bordeaux, by contrast, is a 5-kilometre walking trail in the centre of La Roche-Posay. At 3 kilometres, the “Un bain d'eau de velours” walk is shorter than the 5-kilometre Boucle Bordeaux.
Casino de La Roche-Posay combines a gaming room, a bar, a restaurant and a concert hall. Its architectural structure continues that of Château de Posay, which opened in 1932. Check the current programme and access conditions before visiting. During the season, several race meetings are also held in green surroundings at Hippodrome de la Gâtinière; it is also worth checking the current programme before your trip.
