Gouex: Pond, Cave and Trails
Accommodation in Gouex
When choosing a travel destination, people often have different interests in mind: time by the water, a walk with a set distance, swimming or cultural history. Gouex can be associated with several specific themes, each offering a different focus. You can shape your travel plans around whether you are more interested in the landscape, physical activity or historical connections.
Pond and cave: landscape and prehistory
The Plan d'eau de La Rallerie is a 2-hectare pond created in a former 7-hectare quarry. The two area figures refer to different things: 2 hectares describes the pond, while 7 hectares refers to the former quarry. The pond is used for fishing and walking. It therefore combines time by the water with two specific activities. Its creation within a former quarry also gives the body of water a distinctive landscape context.
The Grotte du Bois-Ragot offers a different perspective. Discovered in 1968, it illustrates the transition from the Late Magdalenian to the Azilian. This classification makes the cave an attraction for travellers interested in prehistory. At the same time, it forms part of a karst system at the foot of a wooded slope. A small tributary of the Vienne lies 40 metres from the cave. Archaeological context and landscape complement each other here: the transition to the Azilian describes the historical period, while the karst system, slope and tributary characterise the surroundings.
A dated glimpse of history
Another historical trace leads to the Verrières forge. The forge business was merged with Goberté in Gouex in 1787. This brings different historical perspectives together: the Grotte du Bois-Ragot concerns a prehistoric transition, while the forge is linked to a specific business merger in the 18th century. If you choose cultural history as a criterion for your trip, Gouex offers more than one historical period to explore.
Routes, horse riding and swimming
Two routes in the Les Coteaux des Fadets trail network pass through the Gouex area. Boucle 3 is 4.4 kilometres long, and Boucle 4 is 0.6 kilometres long. The difference is 3.8 kilometres: within this network, Boucle 4 is the shorter route and Boucle 3 the longer one. If you are choosing by distance, this direct comparison makes it easier to decide between the two routes.
Le Goberté / Boucle 4 is an 11.2-kilometre riding loop in Gouex. The name Boucle 4 therefore appears in two different contexts: for the 0.6-kilometre route in the trail network and for the Le Goberté riding loop. Conditions for using the riding loop may vary; check them before planning your trip.
The Piscine communautaire adds swimming to these options. Its pool is 25 metres long and equipped with a water cannon. Here, pool length is the specific point of reference, while the routes are described in kilometres. This lets you include swimming, walks, routes and horse riding as different activities in your travel plans.
