Discover Vallans
Accommodation in Vallans
Vallans offers travelers practical starting points for a trip focused on walking, waterscapes, and local history. The walking trails have designated lengths, and the circular route “Le Charme d’un village-source” also has a stated duration. The local landscape also includes communally used marshland, a central leisure park, and historic landmarks. This lets you plan your stay around the themes that matter to your trip.
A Village of Springs and Marshland
Vallans is a village of springs on a limestone plateau. Biefs and streams flow down from the plateau through fountains and washhouses. This combination of elevation, waterways, and structures shapes the character of the village. Vallans is one of the 91 municipalities in the Parc naturel régional du Marais poitevin, placing it within a broader landscape. The use of the municipal marshland is also part of the village’s history: it has continued to be used as pastureland to this day. The 21-hectare Marais communal de Vallans is a shared pasture along the Courance.
Walking Trails and Route Planning
Vallans offers three walking trails measuring 3, 6, and 8 km. The circular route “Le Charme d’un village-source” in Vallans is 7 km long, with a stated duration of two hours. The distances give you an idea of each route’s length, while the circular route also has a specific time estimate to help you plan your day. One starting point for a walk is at the church square, opposite the town hall. Before setting out, check the local trail markers and path conditions, as signage and conditions may change. Its length falls between those of the offered 6 km and 8 km routes.
Leisure in the Village Center
Parc à Teurtous is in the village center and covers 3 hectares. Facilities include a public barbecue, children’s play equipment, a City-Stade, a boules court, and a tennis court. Unlike a walking trail, the park brings together several leisure activities in one central location. The Verger de Jeannot, a pesticide-free conservation garden, is right next door. Park facilities and garden maintenance may change; if you plan to use one of the facilities in particular, check its current status before your visit.
Church and Local History
Notre-Dame Church brings together connections to the 11th and 19th centuries. The parish church also contains an altar dedicated to Louis IX. Another historical connection is the Priory of Vallans, where Louis IX spent the night in May 1242 during a siege. The altar dedication and the stay at the priory are two distinct links to local history—one religious, the other a dated event. The circular route also takes you past the private Château d’Allerit and its dovecote.
