Chatignac: Nature, Cycling Routes and Village Church
Accommodation in Chatignac
Chatignac lies in the Coteaux du Montmorélien Natura 2000 protected area (FR5400420), a Special Area of Conservation. This gives you several specific interests to consider when planning your trip: the protected landscape, cycling routes connected with the Maury, and a mini-golf course in the village. The parish church of Saint-Pierre and a mosaic in the village square are additional points of interest. You can shape your stay around nature, cycling and village culture.
Natura 2000 Landscape and the Maury
The protected area comprises around fifty small hills with chalky or marly limestone soils dating from the Upper Cretaceous. Its habitats include xerothermic dry grasslands, downy oak stands and juniper scrub. In some places, it also includes alkaline fens or nutrient-poor wet meadows belonging to the Molinion alliance. The area therefore encompasses both dry and wet habitat types. More than 30 orchid species have been recorded in the calcareous mesophilic or xerophilic grasslands. These grasslands are a specific point of interest for anyone interested in botany; woodland and wetlands add further habitats to the landscape.
The Maury also shapes the landscape around the village. On its way to Châtignac, before joining the Né, it once again follows a winding course with several branches and wetlands. So, alongside the hills and their habitats, there is also a river and its tributaries to take in. Water levels may vary seasonally.
Cycling Routes and Viewpoints
The Brossac Nord – Circuit découverte 4B cycling route follows the Maury to Châtignac and reaches viewpoints on the hills with visible ridgelines. The Brossac Nord – Circuit exploration 4C continues as far as Châtignac. Both routes are connected with the village; on route 4B, the river and viewpoints are specific landmarks to consider when planning. If you would like to focus on these landscape features while cycling, route 4B offers a clearly described connection to them. Route 4C also goes as far as Châtignac.
Village Church, Mosaic and Mini-Golf
The village church in Châtignac is the parish church of Saint-Pierre. There is also a mosaic depicting a rural scene in the village’s main square. The church and mosaic offer different points of interest: one is identified as the parish church, while the other depicts a rural scene. Both provide specific cultural points of interest for your visit.
The Mini golf de Châtignac is a seven-hole course with obstacles. Equipment is not provided for visitors, so bring your own. For information and reservations, contact Châtignac Town Hall. As reservation arrangements may change, check with the town hall for the latest details. This will take care of the practical arrangements for this leisure activity, while the cycling routes and landscape offer other ways to shape your stay.
