Vismes brings together two distinct themes for trip planning: cultural history represented by protected buildings and objects, and the Circuit des Croisettes cycling route. Its historical associations range from a medieval fortification dating to around the year 1000, to the Château du Plouy, built in 1711, and objects from the 18th century. The cycling route is 42 kilometers long and passes through several named places. Depending on what you want to focus your stay on, you can consider these cultural and route perspectives separately.

Cultural history in buildings and objects

The Church of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin in Vismes is protected as a historic monument. The medieval fortification of Vismes was built around the year 1000 by the first lord of Vismes. There is a registered feudal motte in Vismes; in Vismes-au-Mont, two feudal mottes mark the sites of former strongholds. The Château du Plouy was built in 1711.

In Morival, the Sainte-Agathe Chapel houses a painted wooden statue of Saint Agatha dating from the 18th century. The statue and two wedding globes (bridal bouquets) in the chapel have been protected as movable historic objects since March 4, 1980. The furnishings thus include both a statue of a saint and two wedding objects.

The dates refer to different facts: around the year 1000 refers to the construction of the fortification, 1711 to the building of the château, the 18th century to the statue, and March 4, 1980, to the protected status of the statue and globes. The types of protection also differ: the church is protected as a historic monument, while the statue and globes are movable historic objects.

The Circuit des Croisettes cycling route

The Circuit des Croisettes is a 42-kilometer cycling route. It passes through Le Plouy and Vismes-au-Mont, then continues to Vismes-au-Val along the banks of the Vimeuse. The place and river names refer to different points of reference: Vismes-au-Val is the named place, while the Vimeuse is the river along whose banks the route runs there. The sequence helps distinguish Vismes-au-Mont from Vismes-au-Val along the route.

Unlike the individual cultural sites, the Circuit describes a route with a fixed total length and a series of named places. This is a different planning scale from the history of the buildings and objects: you can give the cycling route and cultural themes different levels of importance during your stay. Check the route details before setting off.

Landscape and accommodation

The Domaine du Plouy offers a different focus: it extends over six hectares of wooded natural landscape. Alongside buildings and protected objects, this provides a specific detail about the landscape.

The Domaine du Plouy offers tourist accommodation in the form of holiday cottages and guest rooms. Check availability before your trip.
