Saint-Quentin-En-Tourmont offers a range of nature and activity themes: the Parc du Marquenterre as an ornithological reserve, sandy trails for walking or horse riding, and activities related to horse breeding. When looking for a hotel, it may help to decide in advance which of these interests you want to shape your stay.

A landscape of dunes and lowlands

The commune covers 3,300 hectares of wooded dunes and cultivated lowlands. Old dikes protect the lowlands from the sea. Wooded dunes, cultivated land and the protection of the lowlands all form part of the landscape.

Parc du Marquenterre and birdwatching

The Parc du Marquenterre is located in Saint-Quentin-En-Tourmont between Le Crotoy and Quend. As an ornithological reserve, it covers 260 hectares of dunes, pine forests, wetlands and marshes. These habitats support the protection and observation of hundreds of migratory birds. In the heart of the Baie de Somme National Nature Reserve, the Parc includes a protected area of 200 hectares. The area figures refer to different places: 3,300 hectares for the commune, 260 for the park and 200 for the protected area.

Guided walks, themed seminars, and photography and ornithology courses offer a range of ways to explore the nature theme. If you are interested in a particular format, check the dates before your trip.

Sandy trails with different destinations

The Chemin des bergers is a 1.5-kilometre sandy trail for walking or horse riding. It ends at Pointe de la Maye and offers an impressive view of the ornithological park. The trail is free to use and has a car park.

The Chemin du bout d'amont is 3.7 kilometres long and is also a free sandy trail for walking or horse riding; it also has a car park. At the end, visitors can enjoy an impressive view of the mussel beds. The two trails therefore differ both in length and in the view at their destination: the shorter one ends at Pointe de la Maye, overlooking the ornithological park, while the longer one offers views of mussel beds.

Horse riding, carriage rides and a cycling route

Espace Henson Marquenterre offers horse rides, carriage rides and guided walks through the horse-breeding grounds. Experienced riders can ride from there to the bay and gallop along wide beaches. Experience, access to the route and the applicable riding conditions are relevant for these beach rides; access and conditions may vary.

The way of getting around also distinguishes these options: the two Chemins are sandy trails for walking or horse riding, while the Circuit vélo l'Avocette is a cycling route through the commune of Saint-Quentin-En-Tourmont.

Architecture of the parish church

The parish church of Saint-Quentin in Saint-Quentin-En-Tourmont has a bell tower above its portal. In the nave, four visible beams support a pointed barrel vault. A barrel vault runs lengthwise through the space; the term “pointed” describes its tapered shape.

Before your trip, check the Parc du Marquenterre's seasonal opening details, the dates of its activities and the availability of activities at Espace Henson. You should also check trail access conditions in advance.
