Coye-La-Forêt combines nature themes with architectural history and a recurring art event. The Étangs de Commelles and the Sentier botanique de Coye-la-Forêt give the landscape different characteristics; the Château de la Reine Blanche and the Église Notre-Dame de Jeunesse represent different periods of local architectural history. The Salon des Beaux-Arts de Coye-la-Forêt adds art to these themes. When planning your trip, you can weigh up which of them you would like to shape your stay.

Landscape at the Étangs de Commelles

The Étangs de Commelles extend along the course of the Thève River over more than 40 hectares and comprise four bodies of water. The area is part of the Parc Naturel Régional Oise-Pays de France and lies within a Zone naturelle d'intérêt écologique, faunistique et floristique (ZNIEFF). The Étangs are also protected as a classified site within the Domaine de Chantilly. These designations bring together ecological and landscape classifications with the heritage of the Domaine de Chantilly.

You can explore the four consecutive ponds on foot, by bike, or on horseback. This lets you experience the Étangs in different ways. If you are primarily interested in learning about plants along a trail, the botanical trail offers a different focus.

The botanical trail

The Sentier botanique de Coye-la-Forêt introduces around one hundred different trees and plants along the route. This 2 km circular trail starts on the outskirts of Coye-La-Forêt, heading towards the Étangs de Commelles. Its length and the plants featured give the nature theme a clearly defined scope. At the Étangs, by contrast, the focus is on the four bodies of water, their protected status, and the ways to explore the area around the ponds. This lets you choose between a themed circular trail and a larger landscape area.

Architectural history in Coye-La-Forêt

The Château de la Reine Blanche is protected as a historic monument. Its history goes back to a medieval building that was later converted into a mill. In 1825 and 1826, the château was remodelled in the neo-Gothic style. Its origins, later use as a mill, and neo-Gothic transformation are distinct historical phases of the same building.

The Église Notre-Dame de Jeunesse was rebuilt in the Gothic style in 1875. This makes for a clear distinction when comparing the buildings' histories: the château brings together medieval origins, a later conversion, and two years of neo-Gothic remodelling; for the church, the 1875 Gothic reconstruction defines its documented building phase. If you are interested in architecture, the two buildings thus offer different historical reference points, without reducing them to the same period.

Plan your art event visit and journey

The Salon des Beaux-Arts de Coye-la-Forêt has been held every year or almost every year since 1967. Exact dates can vary from year to year. If you would like to plan your trip around the Salon, check the dates for the relevant year. This allows you to fit a possible art event into your other plans, rather than assuming that an annual event takes place on a fixed date.

For rail travel, Orry-la-Ville–Coye-la-Forêt station is relevant. It is on the Creil–Melun branch of RER D and offers TER services. Before setting off, check the current timetable and for any disruptions. This is especially useful if you want to coordinate the train connection with a visit to the Salon or with your other travel plans.

If you are looking for a hotel in Coye-La-Forêt, you can choose where to stay based on the interests that matter most for your trip: the ponds and their various protected designations, the botanical trail, the architectural history, or a possible Salon date. For practical planning, the Salon dates for the year and the current train timetable are the things to check before you leave.
