Discover Attichy
Accommodation in Attichy
Attichy can be discovered through both its historic architecture and its practical leisure activities. At the Church of Saint-Médard, Romanesque details take centre stage; certain features of the former castle have survived. This view of the town is complemented by a cycling route that passes through Attichy and the Piscine d’Attichy, with its several pools. The themes are clearly distinct: history is reflected in individual architectural features and remains, while leisure is represented by a route and a swimming facility.
Romanesque details at the Church of Saint-Médard
The Church of Saint-Médard has been mentioned since 1119. On the south wall of the nave are Romanesque round-arched windows set on small columns with sculpted capitals, as well as a cornice with secular corbels. These architectural elements can be viewed as different details of the same wall: the round arch shapes the upper part of the windows, and the small columns support capitals, the decorated upper ends of small columns. A cornice is a horizontal projecting architectural feature; corbels project beneath it. “Secular” here refers to non-religious motifs. On the south wall, you can therefore see both the shape of the windows and the sculptural details of the capitals and corbels. The reference to 1119 and the specific architectural features complement each other: one provides a historical context, while the other draws attention to forms on the south wall.
Traces of the former castle
Attichy’s former castle was probably destroyed in 1796. A garden with two lions, the gateway on Place Cardon and the Salle Cardon have survived. The probable date of destruction and the surviving features offer two perspectives on the same place: the former castle complex and the remains passed down from it.
Cycling and swimming
The Voie cyclable des lisières de l’Oise is 6.7 kilometres long, follows a former railway line from Compiègne to Soissons and passes through Attichy. The stated length refers to the cycling route; Compiègne and Soissons describe the course of the former railway line. For planning purposes, these are two separate aspects: the specific length of the cycling route and its historic track. The route’s connection to the town comes from the fact that it passes through Attichy. In this way, the route stands as a leisure attraction in its own right alongside the historic architectural features.
The Piscine d’Attichy has a paddling pool, a medium-sized pool and a 25-metre main pool. The water in the main pool gradually deepens to 2.50 metres. Length and increasing depth are two different measurements of the main pool; the paddling pool and medium-sized pool complete the sequence of pools at different depths. Facilities also include sun loungers, children’s play equipment, table tennis tables, picnic tables and a snack bar. The swimming pool thus offers a variety of pools and facilities for spending time out of the water. When considering what it offers, you can distinguish between the pool layout and the additional facilities, which include play, seating and food options.
