La Chapelle Huon: Hiking Trails and Heritage
Accommodation in La Chapelle Huon
When planning a stay in La Chapelle-Huon, the Circuit de la Redonne and the Église Saint-André offer two different points of interest: landscape and heritage. Regional apple products and an event venue in a former freight station round out the picture. If you are looking for a hotel, you can consider whether trails, church architecture or an event is the deciding factor for your trip.
Hiking the Circuit de la Redonne
In La Chapelle-Huon, the Circuit de la Redonne is designated as a mountain biking route and a Sentier de Promenade et de Randonnée (PR). It runs between La Chapelle-Huon and Saint-Gervais-de-Vic along the Ruisseau de la Redonne, passing through bocage landscapes and sunken lanes. The route also offers several panoramic views of the surrounding countryside. Another destination along the way is the 15th- and 16th-century Manoir de la Béchuère.
The designated starting points for the Circuit are the Parking des Grands Bois car park and another trailhead in Feumusson. Feumusson is on the D 74, 3.7 km north of La Chapelle-Huon. Check the information about the starting points before setting out. After crossing the D 74, stage 68 of the Sentiers Sarthois follows the Moulin de l’Étang to La Chapelle-Huon.
Church architecture and protected art
The oldest part of the Église Saint-André is Romanesque and dates from the 11th to 12th century. The church also includes a Renaissance-era seigneurial chapel. Contemporary stained-glass windows were added as part of a comprehensive restoration; the current bell tower was also built in 2000 as part of this restoration. The Église Saint-André has been listed as a historic monument since 6 January 1926.
The retable de sacristie has an arched pediment relief depicting two angels holding a chalice from which a host emerges. The year 1653 appears in a cartouche on the entablature. The altarpiece has been protected as a historic object since 19 January 1990. A stained-glass detail in La Chapelle-Huon is a work by Vitrail France dating from 1998. The church and art highlights thus span different periods: from the Romanesque building phase and the Renaissance to later restorations and works.
Apple products and an event venue
Since the 2000s, the Cidrerie Distillerie Pelletier has been processing apples in La Chapelle-Huon to make a wide range of products. Traditional farmhouse cider is available in sweet, brut and extra brut varieties. The range also includes 100% apple juice, apple and pear juice, apple and quince juice, Pétillant du Verger, cider vinegar and cider jam. The fruity Apéropom is aged in oak barrels and served well chilled. Individual products may change.
The Gîte de la Gare is located in the former freight station of La Chapelle-Huon and serves as a reception and event venue for family and professional events with up to 180 guests. If you are travelling for an event, this venue provides a specific local point of reference alongside the hiking and heritage attractions.
