Quelaines combines local heritage with a hilly, agricultural landscape. Historic buildings, wooded green spaces and outdoor activities offer different focal points for planning your trip. If you are looking for a hotel in Quelaines, you can consider whether local history, walks or sporting activities are most important to you. The following examples show the places and activities that bring these themes to life.

Chapel and manor house: local history

The Chapelle du Pré-Guyon was built around 1652. It is about 1,500 metres from the town centre, at the Astillé-Quelaines-Origné junction. Behind the chapel stands a calvary with a red crucifix in honour of Notre-Dame-de-Pontmain. Historically, the chapel was important for worship in Quelaines: after the village church was destroyed, it made it possible for worship to continue.

The Manoir du Buat was built in 1544 and belonged to the counts of the family of the same name. From 1738, it was used as a presbytery. In chronological terms, it predates the chapel, which dates to around 1652; together, the two places represent different periods of construction and historical contexts.

Bocage countryside and green spaces

The municipal landscape includes hilly, agricultural bocage plateaus. This describes the character of Quelaines’ landscape; parks and the water feature are more specific places to spend time outdoors.

The Parc du Manoir du Buat is near the sports area. It is a small, tree-filled park that offers shade in summer. By contrast, the Parc du Grand Plessis is a 1.9-hectare wooded area. The two green spaces therefore differ both in their stated size and in the character highlighted.

The municipal Plan d’eau on Rue de Bretagne, towards Cossé-le-Vivien, covers 1.7 hectares and is a place for walks and exploring. It is slightly smaller in area than the Parc du Grand Plessis; unlike the latter’s woodland character, the focus here is on the water.

Walks and activities

For hikes, route no. 70, “Circuit de la Vallée de Brault – Quelaines-Saint-Gault,” in the Pays de Craon is designated as a hiking trail. This should be distinguished from the extension of an urban walking route around the town centre, which is envisaged in a municipal planning document dated December 2024. The two statements have different statuses: the circuit is designated as a hiking trail, whereas the walking route extension is planned. Check local conditions if you are taking this plan into account when planning your trip.

The Union Vélocipédique de Quelaines is a historical reference point for cycling. It was founded in 1906 to promote cycling in various forms, including races, outings and leisure rides. The club’s history adds a distinct sporting perspective to the local themes.

In Montigné, Swin Golf Quelaines offers an outdoor 18-hole course; footgolf is also available. Check opening conditions before travelling. The activities mentioned therefore range from walks and hiking to golf, while the history of cycling offers a historical perspective on the local sporting tradition.
