Discover Coudray
Accommodation in Coudray
In Coudray, several different interests can shape your plans: a longer hike, observing nature, and discovering traces of local architectural and church history. When choosing a hotel, consider which of these themes you would like to shape your stay.
Circular walk and riverbanks
The Circuit des Coudriers is an easy circular walking trail. It is 11.26 kilometres long and takes about three hours and 30 minutes. The distance and approximate duration give you a concrete framework for planning your day around a hike.
The trail passes near the Bavouze lock on the Mayenne River. A detour of about 150 metres leads to the banks of the Mayenne. The lock and riverbanks are two distinct landmarks for orientation: the route runs near the lock, while the detour leads to the riverbanks.
Nature in the Bédennerie area
The Bédennerie nature and recreation area offers a different focus from the circular walk. The site is accessible and provides an opportunity to discover and observe local nature. The area includes a hibernaculum, a stepping-stone path, hedgerows and dry-wood hedges. There are also games and fruit-tree plantings.
The species information specifically concerns the wetland: of the nine species recorded in Coudray, seven are currently found in Bédennerie. This species information complements the area’s range of landscape features.
Buildings and local history
Château de Luigné dates from the 16th to the 19th century and is visible from the road. Its simple buildings are arranged at an angle, and the central building stands on older foundations. The château thus brings together an exterior layout and evidence of older foundations. A feudal motte is also still visible beside the château’s former moats.
Smaller historical details are also part of the town’s history. The cast-iron signposts installed in Coudray around 1850 were recently restored in the official colours. They offer a different perspective on the buildings, focusing on historical wayfinding and the restoration of these signs.
A commemorative plaque in the church of Saint-Julien-le-Martyr remembers Louise Olympe and her daughter Louise Déan de Luigné, who were beatified in 1984. The church was closed after being struck by lightning on 2 September 2022; renovation work began in late January 2026. If you are planning to visit the interior, check its reopening status beforehand.
A glimpse of local life
The Aux Délices du Coudray bakery opened in September 2023. During its first few weeks, it offered crusty bread and generous Viennoiseries. If you would like to visit the bakery, check beforehand whether it is currently open.
