You can focus on different interests during a stay in Bazougers: architectural history, archaeological heritage, a longer walking loop or painting. What matters is whether you are more interested in individual religious buildings, planning a set walking route or looking for a creative activity. Circuit 6 leads you to discover the Menhir de la Hune; the “Peindre à la ferme” workshop offers a different focus.

Heritage and architecture

The church in Bazougers was classified as a historic monument on 10 August 1931; its rear chapel dates from the 16th century and is now used as a sacristy. The two dates refer to different things: the 16th century dates the chapel, while 1931 marks the church’s classification. In the town centre, the Chapelle du Chenot and its altarpieces are also worth seeing.

The Moulin de la Pelonnière is a restored windmill built in 1826 by M. Geslot. The Château de Souvray has a renovated keep. So this selection includes a windmill and a keep, as well as religious buildings.

The Prieuré de la Cotellerie in Bazougers is a modern building with Romanesque-inspired architecture. The Romanesque influence relates to its design, not its age: the Prieuré is a modern building. Its crypt is dedicated to the Martyrs of Laval. Unguided individual visits are available; as this visitor service may change, check before your visit whether it is currently offered.

The menhir and the circular walking route

The “Circuit du Menhir de la Hune à Bazougers (No. 6)” is a long, 16.0-kilometre loop starting in Bazougers. Circuit 6 starts at Place de l'église and leads walkers to discover the Menhir de la Hune; the loop also offers a chance to explore the landscape of the Mayenne département.

The Menhir de la Hune is 5.6 metres high. It was originally used as a polishing stone and originally lay on the ground.
