Bais combines a rural livestock-farming area with a bocage landscape, where hedgerows divide the fields. Outdoor experiences, cultural heritage and seasonal leisure activities offer a range of options. You can plan your stay around what matters most to you: trails through the countryside, historic architecture or a particular leisure activity.

Landscapes and routes

The Circuit de l’Aron is an 18-kilometre circular route starting in Bais, suitable for hiking, horse riding and mountain biking. It follows the bocage trails around Bais and offers panoramic views over the Coëvrons. The 18 kilometres cover the full circuit; you can shorten the route by taking the V1 variant. You can extend it by combining it with the Circuit de la Vaudelle or the Boucle multi-randonnée N°04. This gives you the choice of a shorter option or longer combinations from the same starting point. Route configurations may change, so check the latest route information before setting out.

The Boucle multi-randonnée N°04 passes over Montaigu and through the Bois du Rochard and Bois d’Izé. Montaigu has a notable viewpoint overlooking the region. The two routes therefore offer different landscape experiences as described: the Circuit de l’Aron focuses on bocage trails and panoramas over the Coëvrons, while the Boucle takes in the named hills, forests and viewpoint.

Heritage in Bais

The Château de Montesson was built in stages from the 14th to the 17th century and is surrounded by moats. The entrance pavilion has a roof with curved sides on all four sides. Its granite façade bears the coat of arms of the de Montesson family; the grounds also include a round tower with a slate onion dome. These details give the château a distinctive architectural character that reflects its long construction history.

The château stands on the road to Hambers, at the exit from Bais, and is visible from the road. Outside the Heritage Days, visits are limited to viewing it from the road. If you would like to see more of the château, the Heritage Days are an exception to consider; check the dates.

The frescoes in the Church of Notre-Dame-de-l’Assomption depict scenes from the Passion of Christ, as well as his childhood and public ministry. You can visit for free; guided tours are available on request. Check the arrangements for visiting again before you arrive.

Seasonal leisure activities

Domaine Carp’Eden is a private, 5,000 m² sport-fishing pond on the Bras d’Or in Bais. Seasonal introductory fishing afternoons for families are offered there by reservation. Equipment is provided, and a guide leads the introduction. Check the latest dates and booking conditions in advance so you can plan the activity to fit your stay.

Bais’s intercommunal swimming pool is a heated outdoor pool with a lawned area, a paddling pool for young children and a large slide. As a seasonal facility, it should only be included in your plans after checking the latest opening information. For an introductory fishing afternoon, reservations and dates are key. These different requirements can help you choose the leisure activities that best fit your specific travel plans.
