Trémont: Vineyards, Hiking Trail and Heritage
Accommodation in Trémont
Trémont is shaped by a hilly vineyard landscape. A range of interests come together here for a stay: the Sentier des Trois Monts, a tourist wine cellar, the Route des Vins Vignobles et Patrimoine du Haut-Layon, and historic features at Saint-Fiacre Church and the manor house. When planning your trip, you can decide whether hiking, wine or local history should be the main focus.
Vineyards and hiking trail
The Sentier des Trois Monts is a 12.07-kilometre hiking trail with a stated walking time of three hours. Yellow markings indicate the route. This information helps you plan how much time you’ll need; also check local trail conditions before setting out. The trail passes through the Haut-Layon wine-growing area and offers the chance to discover traditional vineyard huts. The hilly vineyard landscape also shapes Trémont’s character. The route therefore focuses on both the trail itself and the vineyard scenery.
Local wine: cellar and tour
Domaine de Villeneuve in Trémont is a tourist wine cellar. Visitors are welcomed in a modern, comfortable and hospitable cellar. Wines from the Anjou and Coteaux du Layon appellations are offered; Cabernet Franc and Chenin are the main grape varieties grown. Domaine de Villeneuve also offers a playful, sensory tour of its wine-growing area. These are two distinct ways to experience the local wine scene: the cellar focuses on the welcome and wine selection, while the tour explores the wine-growing area. As booking conditions may change, check them before planning the tour.
A stop on the wine and heritage route
Trémont is one of the notable stops on the Route des Vins Vignobles et Patrimoine du Haut-Layon. This connection reflects two aspects of the village that can also be explored independently: wine-growing and historic heritage. When planning your trip, you can therefore focus on the vineyard landscape, the wine cellar or local history, rather than treating these different themes as a single itinerary.
The manor house and Saint-Fiacre Church
The manor house on Route de Cernusson dates from the 15th and 17th centuries. In 1881, two paintings, “Le Sacrifice d’Isaac” and “Jésus chez Marthe et Marie,” were noted in the choir of Saint-Fiacre Church in Trémont and attributed to the painter Thury. The year refers to when the paintings were mentioned, not when they were created. The church also houses a reliquary bust containing the head of Saint Fiacrius. The manor house, paintings and reliquary bust represent different aspects of local history: architectural history, painting and religious heritage.
Annual summer events
A parish ceremony is held every year on August 15 at the Shrine of the Bonne Dame. The “Foulées des Trois Monts” race takes place annually on the second Sunday in July. These are two different summer events: a parish ceremony and a race. If either event is important to your trip, check the current programme or date with the local organisers.
The activities differ when it comes to timing: the hiking trail has a stated walking time of three hours, while the ceremony and race are tied to fixed annual dates. If you’re planning around an event, confirm its date with local sources in advance. You can then choose the focus of your stay based on whether you’d like to centre it on a hike, wine, local history or a particular event.
