Discover La Séguinière
Accommodation in La Séguinière
Explore La Séguinière through its historic buildings, trails of varying lengths and the landscape along the Moine. When planning a stay, you can combine these highlights: a route with heritage stops, a walk by the river or some time at Moulin de la Cour. The weekly market also offers a specific date to work into your visit plans.
Walking trails and landscapes
The “Dans les pas du patrimoine de La Séguinière” trail is 4.5 kilometres long and marked with white footprints. Along the way, it passes an old school, a chapel, a forgotten cross, a fountain and an old bridge. The banks of the Moine offer peaceful scenery during the walk. This route therefore combines historic stops with a nature experience along the river.
“Au fil de l’eau” is 6.4 kilometres long and takes approximately 1 hour and 30 minutes to walk. Green markings on a white background show the way. The route passes the restored Vieux Pont. Its length and estimated walking time can help you fit this trail into your day's plans.
At 15.8 kilometres, “De l’étang ruiné au château de Tiffauges” is the longest of the routes described here. It crosses bocage landscapes, forest paths and wetlands, as well as several hamlets in La Séguinière. The three routes therefore differ both in length and in the experiences described: heritage stops, the Vieux Pont or varied scenery. Trail markings may change; check the current signs before setting out.
Buildings and history
The choir of Chapelle Notre-Dame de Toute Patience dates from the 12th or 13th century. Logis de la Marche was built in the 15th century and can be seen from Rue de la Marche. These two buildings offer different historical points of interest: the age of the choir at the chapel, and the view of the building from the street at the Logis.
Église Notre-Dame de l’Assomption is protected as a historic monument. Its older section was completely rebuilt during the Renaissance. The features described include carved vaults in the south and central naves. Contemporary stained-glass windows depict, in part, themes from the Vendée Wars and, in part, episodes from the life of Père de Montfort.
The Moulinard windmill also tells a story of restoration: after work began in 2008, the mill was rebuilt stone by stone. Along with the buildings in the town, it adds an example of skilled reconstruction to the historic stops on the walking trails.
By the Moine: Moulin de la Cour and Grotte de Bibi
Moulin de la Cour is located on the banks of the Moine in the commune of La Séguinière. In the La Ménardière area, a footbridge provides access to the site from the RD 753. As access infrastructure may change, it is advisable to check the situation before your visit. Moulin de la Cour offers fishing opportunities and a fitness trail for visitors aged 12 and over.
The site also has a picnic area with tables, children's play equipment and a barbecue. These facilities give you a concrete idea of what you can do there; check their current condition before your visit. A footpath along the Moine leads to Grotte de Bibi. It lies in a small clearing at the foot of a rock, near a spring. The two riverside destinations therefore have different features: at the Moulin, you'll find the facilities described and fishing opportunities, while the Grotte is notable for its setting in the landscape.
