Discover Sautron: Trails, Nature and Heritage
Accommodation in Sautron
Trails and Scenery in the Cens Valley
If you’re looking for a hotel in Sautron, the local trails and cultural attractions may help you choose your destination. Options range from a short trail in the Cens Valley to longer routes and a historic building. Information about length, route and theme gives you a practical basis for deciding how to balance nature and local history during your stay.
Circuit 1, “Coeur de Bourg,” is a 1.7 km loop for exploring the heritage and history of Sautron’s town centre. It is accessible to people with reduced mobility, as well as blind and visually impaired visitors. This loop combines a manageable distance with a clear focus on the town centre and its history.
The 9 km C2 loop, “Découverte La Nature à Sautron,” passes through the Cens and Chézine valleys around the town centre. It showcases their distinctive flora and fauna, as well as the two rivers. Walking trails along the Cens are also part of Sautron’s green heritage. The Cens Valley is also home to the 1 km Rando’clim trail, which follows the Sentier de la Cascade and is open to everyone for walking and observation. Twelve trees representing six different species are signposted along the route.
The distances provide a practical guide to choosing a route: the Rando’clim trail is shorter at 1 km than the Coeur de Bourg loop at 1.7 km; the C2 loop is 9 km long. The 8 km Promenade bucolique reaches Sautron. Its observation points and areas let visitors discover the ecological and historical features of the Cens Valley, including notable plants, birds, fish and wetlands. The trails therefore differ not only in length, but also in whether they focus on local history, the rivers or the valley’s natural environment.
Heritage and Local History
The Chapelle Notre-Dame de Bongarant is a 15th-century building. Its most striking feature is a vault shaped like an upside-down boat hull, entirely decorated with plant motifs. The chapel is open to the public daily from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.; check the opening hours again before your trip. A visit to the building offers a chance to see an exceptional architectural detail.
The Circuit des Moulins L’Evêque also features in local heritage and history presentations: it is among the themes of local exhibitions about Sautron. Another historical trace is Berligou, the wine of the Dukes of Brittany, which was once produced in Sautron. Together, these topics add further facets to the heritage and history of the town centre, extending beyond the trails through the Cens Valley.
