If you’re looking for a hotel in Donges, start by asking which themes you’d like to shape your stay. In Donges, the options range from wetlands and birdwatching to views of the Loire and historic architecture. Walking trails offer different points of interest; there is also a digital experience, an educational farm and historic buildings. This makes it easy to choose what to see based on your interests, while keeping each experience distinct.

Wetlands and walking trails

The three walking trails each have a different focus. Les Marais de Maca offers a surprising panoramic view of the Loire Valley and its natural and industrial surroundings. Le Coin Carré offers a different perspective on the landscape: suitable for the whole family, the trail provides opportunities to spot herons, ibises, egrets and other wetland birds along the way. The choice between them comes down to what you’re looking for: a panorama of natural and industrial surroundings, or the chance to observe a variety of wetland birds.

The wetland landscape at Revin is shaped by waders and other shorebirds. Cattle graze in the wet meadows as the warmer days return. The changing seasons are therefore part of the landscape associated with the Revin walking trail.

Manor house, chapel and views of the Loire

The Manoir de la Hélardière is a Breton manor house with an enclosed courtyard, dating from the late 15th to the early 16th century. Among other features, it preserves a grand hall with an exposed roof structure, as well as a chapel. Parts of the manor house are protected as a French historic monument; these parts were listed on 29 March 2012.

The manor house hosts temporary exhibitions open to the public and also has an artist’s studio. Sculptures by the owner can be found in the park. As the exhibition program may change, check the dates before visiting.

The Chapelle de Bonne Nouvelle dates from the 17th century. This places it in a different period from the manor house, whose history goes back to the late 15th and early 16th centuries. The Sémaphore de la Taillée offers another point of interest: it is an exceptional viewpoint overlooking the Loire. Open year-round and free to access on foot or by bicycle, it may be difficult to climb in certain weather conditions.
