Saint-Jouin-Bruneval combines a striking coastal landscape with circular trails and historic sites. The Mémorial de Bruneval is open year-round. This lets you decide whether to focus your days more on scenery, outdoor activities or culture.

Coast and nature

The coastline of Saint-Jouin-Bruneval stretches for five kilometres. Its landscape includes steep cliffs with slopes, aerohaline grasslands, two hanging valleys and a valley that leads to the sea. The coast is therefore shaped by several distinct features, from cliffs and grasslands to indentations in the terrain.

Protected-area status is also part of the natural character of the area: Saint-Jouin-Bruneval belongs to two Natura 2000 sites and includes seven ZNIEFF areas. The coastal features and these area designations offer several points of interest if you want to give nature greater emphasis when planning your trip.

Trails and seasonal experiences

The Autour de Bruneval circular trail is an easy 8.9-kilometre loop; the stated duration is two hours and ten minutes. This gives you both a specific distance and a time estimate to work with when planning your day. The Parcours patrimoine dans la valleuse de Bruneval takes a different approach: it starts at the former HĂ´tel du Beau-Minet and features five large-format panels. They tell the story of the area from 1850 to the present day.

In July and August, the Labyrinthe des Falaises offers five routes through a five-hectare maize field. The season and number of routes give this visit a clear place in your travel plans. The Ferme des falaises adds another option as an animal park: on a self-guided walk, you can discover farm animals. In summer, supervised sea swimming is available at Saint-Jouin-Bruneval beach. Check the latest information about lifeguard supervision before swimming.

Culture and history

The church of Saint-Jouin-Bruneval houses a sanctuary dating from the late 13th or early 14th century, as well as an 18th-century polychrome wooden statue of Saint Sebastian. These different dates highlight two historical points of reference within the church. The Tour Conty offers a different architectural feature: Henry de Conty built the turreted structure in the Neo-Moorish style; it was restored in 2019.

The Mémorial de Bruneval is located at the site of one phase of Operation Biting, on 27 and 28 February 1942. Allied forces attacked German defences securing access to the beach. The memorial is open year-round and free to visit. Check the visitor information before setting out.

The open-air museum of the Antifer oil terminal is located at the Belvédère. Using a 25-metre-long steel lectern, it explains historical energy-policy issues and decisions. Alongside the military history, you will also find a place focusing on energy policy and its history.

At Caux Vannerie, the workshop welcomes visitors who want to learn about growing willow and processing it into baskets. The baskets are said to last for more than 20 years. As visitor arrangements may vary, check in advance to find out what visits are available.
