Discover Bennetot
Accommodation in Bennetot
Bennetot can be explored through several specific themes: a named circular walking route, the history of Manoir de Vertot, art in the church and local apple processing. Each theme offers a different focus when choosing a place to stay: you can put walking, architectural and local history, or production at the heart of your visit.
A walk around the circuit
The “Circuit n°6 – Les éoliennes” circular walking route in Bennetot is 3.9 kilometres long. If you want to include a walk in your stay, this gives you a specific distance to use when planning. Check current trail conditions before setting out. The route offers an active focus, while Bennetot’s other themes explore history, art and production.
Manoir de Vertot: architectural history and biography
Manoir de Vertot is a Clos Masure du Pays de Caux, listed as a historic monument, with architecture dating from the 16th and 17th centuries. It is also the birthplace of the Abbé de Vertot, a historiographer of the Order of Malta. A historiographer is a writer of history; the designation “of the Order of Malta” further specifies Abbé de Vertot’s historical role. Architectural history and biography offer two distinct historical perspectives: the centuries refer to the architecture, while the connection to the Abbé refers to his origins. The estate includes 10 hectares of apple trees. It also includes outdoor grounds with outbuildings. The apple trees add a landscape aspect to the architecture and biographical connection.
Art in the church
The work “poutre de gloire dite tref et sa statue: Christ en croix” is housed in the church in Bennetot. It features a Christ figure from the 17th century on a beam from the 19th century. The painting “Descente de Croix” is also housed in the church. The dates of the figure of Christ and the beam can be distinguished in the first work; the painting is a separately named work of art. Together with the manor house, this offers a specific point of comparison over time: there, architecture from the 16th and 17th centuries provides the historical context, while the church work also includes a beam from the 19th century.
Apple processing at La Cidrerie
At La Cidrerie, Richard Fouque makes cider, apple juice and vinegar in Bennetot. The apples are hand-picked every year, and their juice is extracted using a wooden press. This names not only the three products, but also two specific steps in the process: the annual hand-harvest and juice extraction with a wooden press. Apples are also part of the story at Manoir de Vertot, whose estate includes 10 hectares of apple trees. These two aspects have different focuses: at the manor house, the trees are part of the estate, while at La Cidrerie, the emphasis is on harvesting and processing.
