Les Cresnays – Heritage, Garden and Nature
Accommodation in Les Cresnays
Les Cresnays offers several points of interest to help you plan your trip: protected cultural assets, the Vallée de la Sée Natura 2000 site, the Jardin privé des bambous and the Circuit de la Gauterie. When looking for a hotel in Les Cresnays, these themes can help you decide what you would like to focus on during your stay. The church and statuette represent cultural heritage, the habitat information points to nature, the garden to landscaped planting areas and the Circuit to motorsport. This makes it easy to explore the area's distinctive features based on your interests.
Protected heritage at Saint-Pierre
As of August 2026, 19 protected assets were listed in Les Cresnays; 18 of them are located in the Église paroissiale Saint-Pierre. The parish church is therefore the main concentration of the listed assets.
The Église Saint-Pierre also houses a limestone statuette of Saint Anthony the Great. It is coated with lime paint and retains its original polychromy. The figure was formerly identified as Saint Benedict. When considering the statuette, its material, original multicoloured finish and former identification should be distinguished: they describe different aspects of the same object. Anthony is its current identification; Benedict is part of its earlier attribution. This specific history of the object adds another dimension to the numerical overview of protected cultural assets.
Nature in the Vallée de la Sée Natura 2000 site
Les Cresnays is part of the Vallée de la Sée Natura 2000 site. A site description updated on 16 January 2025 lists semi-natural wet grasslands and improved mesophilic grasslands as habitat types, together accounting for 60 percent of the area. This percentage refers to the habitat area of the protected site, not the area of the commune. “Mesophilic” refers to intermediate moisture conditions and distinguishes these grasslands from semi-natural wet grasslands. The site's designation thus connects Les Cresnays with a nature theme, while the grassland types provide further detail about the character of the protected site's habitats.
Jardin privé des bambous
The Jardin privé des bambous is a one-hectare garden in La Dastinière, Les Cresnays. It features a flower maze, grasses, a rose garden, a pond and around 30 species of bamboo. Here, landscaped garden areas come together with a variety of bamboo: the maze and rose garden offer a different focus from the various bamboo species. The garden is therefore distinct as a single landscaped site from the habitat information about the Vallée de la Sée. If you would like to include it in your travel plans, check current visiting arrangements before you arrive; practical opening information should be confirmed again.
Circuit de la Gauterie
The 2025 competition regulations specify that the Circuit de la Gauterie is 1,130 metres long and between 14 and 16 metres wide. These measurements may change if modifications are made to the Circuit. The regulations also specify a single entrance on Route de Le Mesnil-Adelée. This provides concrete information about the Circuit's dimensions and a named access point. Check the current access regulations before you arrive.
