Ducey between architectural history and nature

If you are planning a stay in Ducey, you can explore the town through several specific themes: historic buildings, a fun history experience at the Château des Montgommery, a woodland area open to the public and various outdoor activities. For choosing a destination, the distinction is practical: architecture and local history sit alongside a woodland area, a voie verte and a fishing trail. Visiting hours, games and fishing are each subject to their own seasonal or rules-related guidance.

Buildings from different centuries

The Vieux Pont bridge in Ducey was built in 1613 and has been listed in the inventory of historic monuments since 1975. The construction date and listing year provide two distinct chronological reference points: 1613 marks its construction, while 1975 marks the start of its listing. The bridge is therefore a clearly dated landmark for exploring the town’s historic character.

The Saint-Pair church offers another glimpse into the area’s architectural history. It is a Baroque building from the late 19th century, standing on the site of an earlier 18th-century structure. The former building and the later church thus reflect different historical periods. Together with the Vieux Pont, they offer several specific points of interest for a culturally focused stay.

Château des Montgommery: architecture and visits

The Château des Montgommery preserves original 17th-century decorations, ornate fireplaces, remarkable ceilings and a monumental staircase. Visitors can explore it independently or join a guided tour; visiting hours vary by season. If you prefer one of these options, take the hours for your travel dates into account when planning.

Ducey Code at the château features three different games that explore history in a playful way. They include activities for children and families, as well as one designed to be played on a smartphone. The games may be adjusted seasonally, so check in advance which ones are available for your travel dates.

Woodland, voie verte and other activities

The Bois d’Ardennes adds a natural attraction: this 80-hectare woodland is open to the public. It offers a larger woodland area as a distinct point of interest alongside the individual historic buildings. The Véloscénie connects Paris with the Bay of Mont-Saint-Michel and passes through the commune of Ducey-Les Chéris. The former railway section of La Véloscénie that runs through Ducey is a voie verte, accessible by bicycle, on horseback and on foot.

The historic walk “Ducey, Flânerie dans son histoire” is scheduled to take two hours. Conditions along the route may vary. It runs from Ducey along the estuaries of the Sée and Sélune rivers to Pontaubault, where it leaves the voie verte. The fishing trail on the Sélune at Ducey is suitable for trout and salmon fishing. Check fishing access and the applicable regulations before your trip.
