If you are looking for a hotel in Saint-Martin-Boulogne, hiking trails, the history of Église Sainte-Ide and cultural attractions offer different starting points for planning your trip. You can compare trail lengths and difficulty levels, discover a historic monument in Ostrohove, or take events and leisure activities into account.

Hiking: routes, duration and scenery

Nine listed hiking trails start at the Decathlon store and pass through Saint-Martin-Boulogne and neighbouring municipalities. They range from 3.6 to 15.6 kilometres in length. The selection therefore includes routes of quite different lengths; two routes also include information on duration and difficulty.

The Val Saint-Martin trail is 8.8 kilometres long, takes about 2 hours 10 minutes and is classified as easy. The Parcours du Moulin l'Abbé covers 10.2 kilometres, takes about 2 hours 35 minutes and is considered moderate. Directly compared, the Parcours is longer and its estimated duration is greater; the difficulty ratings also differ. Check current route conditions before setting off, as they may change.

On the Val Saint-Martin trail, scenic points complement the information about distance and duration. The route passes through the former arboretum of Boulogne-sur-Mer, which has diverse flora and fauna, as well as the Ravin de Pitendal, maintained by Eden 62. It also climbs to the Plateau de la Waroquerie, which offers views over the Boulonnais. Nature and views are both part of the route.

Église Sainte-Ide and local history

Église Sainte-Ide stands in the hamlet of Ostrohove, on rue du Mont-d'Ostrohove. The entire building is listed as a historic monument; it was listed by decree on 10 July 2015. The first stone was laid on 28 May 1936, and the church was inaugurated on 19 September 1937. The building was designed by Boulogne architect Pierre Drobecq and is associated with the “La Nef” movement.

The materials and features also shape the description of the church: these include reinforced concrete, stone from Baincthun and flat tiles, as well as stained-glass windows and a chancel fresco. This offers another way to appreciate the site, through both its construction history and specific architectural details.

The town’s history goes back further. Between 1550 and 1789, the village of Saint-Martin developed around a new church on Dringhen Hill. An earlier church stood on the same site as the present one, but faced in a different direction. This historical information offers a further perspective on the area, separate from the construction period of Église Sainte-Ide.

Culture, leisure and events

The Centre Georges-Brassens presents a multidisciplinary programme every year for a broad audience. It includes more than 20 performances spanning music, comedy, puppet theatre and drama. If you would like to include cultural events in your trip plans, you will find a programme featuring a variety of stage performances here.

The municipality’s traditional Christmas market is another annual event. It takes place over a December weekend in the run-up to the holidays at the André-Condette sports hall. Check the specific event dates before travelling if you would like to plan a visit to the market.

The Hélicéa complex is located in Parc Mont-Joie. Activities and facilities there include swimming, ice skating, a spa, a Jacuzzi and a cardio area. These leisure options differ from the hiking trails and cultural events, and can be included in your trip plans depending on your interests.
