Coulomby offers several distinct reasons to visit: paths through a green, hilly landscape, numerous walking trails, a circular cycling route, dated walking events from the 2026 program, and the history of the church’s construction. If you are looking for a hotel for a trip to Coulomby, these themes can help you decide what to focus on during your stay: walking, cycling or exploring the church architecture.

Landscape and trails

The commune lies in a green landscape of hills and valleys. Numerous walking trails cross this area, making hiking a distinct consideration when choosing a destination. The landscape’s history also includes a time-limited protected-area classification: From the publication of the decree of 24 March 2000, Coulomby was one of the communes whose territory was classified as a regional natural park under the name “Parc naturel régional des caps et marais d’Opale” for ten years. This classification connects Coulomby with a specific historical period of the natural park.

Cyclists have another option in the “Liaison douce Coulomby–Lumbres.” The easy circular cycling route is 8.6 kilometres long and starts in Coulomby. Its circular layout, stated length and easy rating give you concrete points of comparison when choosing between a bike ride and the numerous walking trails. The route name provides additional guidance; Coulomby is listed as the starting point.

Walking events in the 2026 program

The Pays de Lumbres program for 2026 scheduled “Rando Village #5” for 10 August: a guided walk of 10 to 12 kilometres along the trails of Coulomby. The town hall was designated as the starting point, and participation was free. The guided format and specified distance range distinguished this event from the numerous walking trails described in general terms.

The program also scheduled the free night walk “Rando Ludik’ nocturne” in Coulomby for 17 July 2026, covering approximately 10 kilometres. Quiz questions at the trail markers gave it a different format from the guided August walk. The two dates therefore show different options from that year’s program: a guided daytime tour and a night route with quiz questions. For later trips, check the event dates announced at the time.

Church and architectural history

Coulomby’s church was built in the 15th or 16th century on the foundations of an older structure. Only the base of a Romanesque tower survives from that earlier building. The choir is covered by a white-stone vault. The bell tower is said to have been rebuilt by the architect Léon Libersalle between 1898 and 1900. A Christ on the Cross, probably dating from the 18th century, is located on the triumphal arch. A door also provides access to the sacristy.

The building’s history thus brings together several periods: the Romanesque remnant, the church from the 15th or 16th century and the possible rebuilding of the bell tower around 1900. The statements also vary in certainty: the rebuilding is reported as a possibility, and the Christ on the Cross is also only probably dated to the 18th century. The white-stone vault in the choir and the sacristy entrance add specific architectural features to these historical details.
