Coulogne offers several specific points of interest to consider when planning a trip: cycling and walking routes, rowing, and local history. If you are looking for a hotel in Coulogne, you can decide whether to focus your time on the canal paths, an activity on the water, or the history of the town. The various offerings differ in route, length, and scheduling – useful details when planning your days in advance.

Cycling and Walking Routes

The green route between Coulogne and Guînes offers pedestrians and cyclists a continuous, 6-kilometre, secured route. It passes through Préville-Trou Gai and the Marais de Guînes alongside the canal, ending in the town centre of Guînes. The route description therefore specifies both intermediate points and a definite endpoint.

The Véloroute des Marais also runs between Coulogne and Guînes. It is about 7 kilometres long and part of EuroVélo 5. For a comparison of lengths, the 6 kilometres of the green route can therefore be compared with the approximate 7 kilometres of the Véloroute. The green route is also described with waypoints through the Marais, while the Véloroute is part of EuroVélo 5.

The corridor along the Canal de Calais offers peaceful walks and cycling trips between Coulogne and Les Attaques, as well as between Coulogne and Guînes. Guînes is therefore a destination in several route descriptions; the corridor also mentions Les Attaques. When choosing a route, its length, described course, and destinations can offer different points of reference for your plans.

On the Water

The free Majest’in river ferry connects Calais Nord and Coulogne in 30 minutes along the Canal de Calais. A trip between the two towns can therefore be included as a distinct part of your plans. Check the ferry’s service information before travelling.

Rowing is also available locally. The rowing facility of the Cercle de l’aviron du Calaisis offers supervised rowing on land and water all year round, both as a recreational and a competitive sport. Qualified instructors and supervisors provide guidance. The offering thus brings together different forms of rowing, without requiring you to limit your plans to a single type of activity.

Local History and Events

The Église Saint-Jacques in the centre of Coulogne is part of the local cultural heritage. The guided tour “À la découverte de la ville de Coulogne” covers the history of the old church, the canals and remains that emerged from the Marais, and remnants associated with conflicts of the 20th century. Its themes therefore range from local and canal history to traces of these conflicts. The tour is scheduled seasonally. For 2026, several Saturdays between 20 June and 12 September were planned; the town hall of Coulogne was listed as the starting point.

The Médiathèque l’Octogone offers events planned throughout the year, with free admission. As programme details may change, check the current programme before visiting. For planning your schedule, the difference between the seasonally scheduled town tour and the year-round events programme is another useful point of reference.
