Lannoy: Parks, Historic Towers and Local History
Accommodation in Lannoy
Lannoy offers several things to enjoy during a stay: two public parks in the centre, architectural and artistic heritage, and surviving remains of the fortifications. There is also an intermunicipal market and a programme of public events. If you’re looking for a hotel in Lannoy, green spaces, local history or events may help shape your travel plans. These different highlights can help you tailor your stay to your interests.
Public Parks in the Centre
Parc du Prévôt and Parc des Croisiers are the two public parks in the centre of the municipality of Lannoy. Parc des Croisiers has a play area for young children. If you’re looking for this kind of facility when planning your trip, this park is a specific option to consider. Parc du Prévôt complements the two central public green spaces.
Architecture, Art and Fortifications
The Ancien couvent des Croisiers is a historic 17th-century building at 25 rue de Tournai. The façades and roofs of its portal have been partially protected as a historic monument since 20 January 1986. The date and partial protection status are part of the building’s history.
A former triptych from the choir of Église Saint-Philippe consists of separate panels. They depict the preaching of Saint Philip, Saint Philip raising the dragon’s victims from the dead, and the Crucifixion. The three subjects offer a distinct insight into the religious imagery associated with the church.
Two surviving remains point to Lannoy’s former fortifications. Tour Cornière is in the town hall park; Tour du Prévost is in Parc Réquillart and dates to 1461. Their names and park locations distinguish the two sites, while the date refers specifically to Tour du Prévost.
The present-day town hall also has a historical connection: it was built on the site of the former Château du Prévôt. Before the French Revolution, this was a fortified tower. The town’s history can therefore be traced through several named buildings and remains, without conflating the former function of Château du Prévôt with the two surviving remains of the fortifications.
Market and Events
The intermunicipal market of Lannoy and Lys-lez-Lannoy opened on Friday, 15 September 2017. It features around twenty traders and producers; this number may change. Offerings include cheese and charcuterie, roasted and fish products, Creole and regional products, as well as butcher’s and fresh produce stalls. The range of products makes the market a local attraction in its own right, alongside the historic sights.
Public events in Lannoy include the FĂŞte des 2 villes, flea markets, cultural events, concerts and performances. If a particular event is the reason for your trip, check the dates for your travel period.
