Discover Montredon-Labessonnié
Accommodation in Montredon-Labessonnié
Montredon-Labessonnié brings together a range of options for planning a trip: an extensive network with more than 120 km of hiking trails, signposted mountain bike circuits, historic buildings, and astronomy and science activities. When planning your stay, you can focus on trails and scenery, churches and monuments, or a specific activity.
Hiking and scenery
More than 120 km of hiking trails and signposted mountain bike circuits offer different ways to explore the area. The Tour du village hiking trail starts at Place du Foirail and passes through the village centre and surrounding countryside. The bell tower of Saint-Jean serves as a landmark along the way.
The Sentier de l’Houlette is an 18 km circular route. Along the route are the remains of forgotten hamlets in the valleys and the ruins of an old mill; far-reaching panoramic views stretch as far as the Pyrenees. There is also a building that has been devoted to astronomy for centuries. The two trails offer different experiences: the Tour du village passes through the village centre and surrounding countryside, while the Houlette is a circular route with a specified length and landscape and cultural features. The trail network may change; check the latest route information before setting out.
The “Montagne” offers panoramic views, oak and chestnut forests, and green pastures. This landscape complements the details about the individual hiking trails with forests, pastures and far-reaching views.
Churches and memorial sites
The present-day Église Saint-Jean-Baptiste de Montredon was built around 1841. A Gothic church dating from the 13th century had previously stood on this site. It was destroyed and rebuilt in 1666, then fell into disrepair around 1800. The current building is therefore part of a longer succession of churches at this site.
Notre-Dame-de-Ruffis is a small Romanesque chapel dating from the 14th century. It has been restored and is maintained by volunteers from the Association pour la Sauvegarde et la Promotion de l’Ensemble de Ruffis (ASPER). Alongside the building’s history, its restoration and upkeep by the association are also defining features of this site.
Another historic site is the Monument de Montredon-Labessonié. Inaugurated in 1922, the monument commemorates 159 people killed in the First World War, 9 in the Second World War, 1 in the Indochina War and 4 in the Algerian War or the conflict in North Africa. The figures refer to different conflicts and show the monument’s various commemorative associations.
Science and other activities
Planète Tarn offers astronomy and science activities. These include workshops on hydropneumatic rockets, volcanoes and earthquakes, as well as planet observation. The programme ranges from scientific topics to observing the sky. Dates and booking conditions may vary; check them if you are planning a specific activity.
Piscine de Bezan is a supervised municipal swimming pool with three pools: a paddling pool, a medium-sized pool and a large pool. It therefore offers different types of pools for swimming.
