Discover Lagrave: Trails, Culture and Food
Accommodation in Lagrave
Lagrave offers a range of ways to enjoy a stay: walking trails, places connected with the history of Sainte-Sigolène and the Marchés gourmands. If you’re looking for a hotel in Lagrave, choose according to the focus of your trip: a walk or bike ride, a route along a stream and the Tarn, or visits with different access conditions. This lets you plan your time around specific themes rather than focusing your stay on just one attraction.
Walk between the village, the castle and the Tarn
The Grand Tour de Lagrave is a 14 km circular route that can be completed on foot or by bike and is also suitable for families. Signs along the route provide information about the village, the castle, the Rivières dam, the vineyard and local wildlife. The route’s themes span local history and architecture as well as landscapes and wildlife, bringing together a variety of perspectives. Check the route details before setting out.
The Sainte-Sigolène loop offers a different focus: it follows the Saudronne stream and the banks of the Tarn. It reaches a landscaped green space near a bridge with a slipway for launching boats. From there, you can see the silhouette of the castle; a sign provides information about the river’s wildlife. Conditions on this route may change seasonally. Before your trip, check local notices and the condition of the slipway on site.
When choosing a route, the Grand Tour offers a specified distance and explicitly allows you to travel on foot or by bike. The Sainte-Sigolène loop focuses on the route along the stream and the Tarn, as well as views of the castle. You can choose between a wide-ranging themed circuit and a loop more closely associated with the water.
Cultural history and different visiting conditions
The cultural building built by the municipality of Lagrave houses the medieval museum and the Sainte-Sigolène archaeological crypt; both are open to visitors. These are separate from the remains of the Sainte-Sigolène crypt at the cemetery. They are classified as a historic monument and can be visited by request. Confirm this visiting requirement in advance so you can plan access to the remains accordingly.
Another historical point of interest is Troclar, on the banks of the Tarn and now part of Lagrave. Archaeological research by Jean Lautier, Marie-Claude and Pierre Cabot confirmed the presence there of a monastery, a necropolis and a church containing the crypt of Saint Sigolène. A necropolis is a burial ground; the monastery and church are two other elements of the archaeological evidence. Troclar thus adds the history of these sites on the Tarn to Lagrave’s cultural and historical points of interest.
Marchés gourmands in Lagrave
The Marchés gourmands in Lagrave offer a different reason to visit than a hike or a cultural attraction. They were held again for their twelfth edition. At the markets, producers and caterers served grilled dishes and specialities from a range of culinary traditions; live music accompanied the entire evening. Food and music therefore share the spotlight, rather than the event focusing on just one culinary tradition. If you’d like to include the markets in your travel plans, check the dates for the relevant edition.
