Fauch offers historical landmarks, a 12 km circular route and seasonal walnut offerings. If you are looking for a hotel in Fauch, these themes can help structure your trip planning: you can decide whether the town’s history, the route through the village and countryside, or a seasonal offering will shape your stay.

The former fortress and its history

The former fortress of Fauch was the scene of civil wars at the end of the 16th century. It was besieged between 1621 and 1653. These dates mark different periods in the town’s history: the conflicts at the end of the 16th century were followed by the siege period from 1621 to 1653.

The Église Saint Vincent is the only surviving trace of the former fortress and is documented as early as 1200. The church was rebuilt and extended at the end of the 19th century. The two dates therefore refer to different stages: 1200 marks the earliest record of the church, while the end of the 19th century refers to its later structural changes.

Designated heritage sites

Several sites in Fauch are designated as heritage to be protected and enhanced. These include the washhouse at D41A/Rue du lavoir and the dovecote at the hamlet of Le Colombier on D13. They also include the Les Fontariès wayside cross on D41/Ch. des Fontariès, as well as Square Dom Rey and its monument. The names and location details distinguish the individual heritage sites and give you specific reference points for planning your trip.

The Chemin des Puechs en Assou

The Chemin des Puechs en Assou is a 12 km circular route through local history. It passes through the village of Fauch and then continues into the surrounding countryside. The route therefore includes both a section through the village and a stretch beyond it. The route description connects these two sections with the history of the area.

Parking for the circular route is available at the town hall square; the starting point is at the edge of the D13. Keep the parking area and trailhead in mind as separate reference points, and check local information before travelling.

Walnuts and picnic spots

GAEC de Mousquette in Fauch sells fresh and dried walnuts in 5 kg and 10 kg quantities. Check seasonal availability before your trip. Another option is to pick walnuts yourself at the farm: at GAEC de Mousquette in Les Fontariès, 81120 Fauch, this is possible daily in October from 2:00 pm to 5:30 pm. Confirm dates and availability before travelling. The difference is relevant to your planning: the walnuts for sale come in the stated quantities, while self-picking is limited to October and a daily time slot.

There are two picnic spots in Fauch: one at the entrance to the village from the direction of Ronel, and one in the village centre beside the old washhouse. Their main difference is their location. The central spot’s proximity to the washhouse gives it a specific connection to the place; the washhouse is also one of the designated heritage sites.
