Prayssac
Accommodation in Prayssac
Prayssac offers a range of starting points for a stay: market life, local history, the surrounding countryside and activities on the Lot. Depending on whether local producers, historic buildings or outdoor activities are your priority, a different focus may suit you.
Market and countryside
The Prayssac market brings together more than one hundred local producers; its tradition dates back to 1977. If market life and local producers are among your travel interests, it is a concrete point of reference when choosing where to stay.
The area around Prayssac includes wooded limestone hills with oak vegetation. This brings two distinct emphases together: the market brings local producers together, while the landscape is shaped by limestone, woodland and oaks. When choosing your stay, you can distinguish between an interest in market life and one in the surrounding area.
History at specific sites
The town's history is reflected in various points of reference: a dated monument, a bell, a medieval chapel and a place with a biographical connection to Jean-Baptiste Bessières.
The “Monument au maréchal Bessières” is located at Place d’Istrie. It was created in 1846 and inaugurated in 1847. Its creation and inauguration are therefore two successive stages in its history; the dates describe different steps.
The bell known as “cloche dite n° 1,” dating from the 16th century, is located in the Église Saint-Barthélemy in Prayssac. The Chapelle Notre-Dame du Rosier in Calvayrac is a medieval church. These two religious points of reference have different historical emphases: one is a dated object within a church, the other the period to which an entire religious building belongs.
The Collège d’Istrie in Prayssac is located on the site of Jean-Baptiste Bessières’ birthplace. The Château du Théron overlooks the Lot Valley. One of the château’s towers dates from the 13th century; the château was rebuilt at the end of the 15th century. For this building, the dates refer to different aspects: the age of the tower and the later rebuilding phase.
Activities on the Lot and on foot
On the Lot in Prayssac, the riverbank, a slipway and/or a pontoon make it possible to use boats for fishing or canoeing and kayaking. Facilities and conditions can change, so check the current situation in advance if you are planning one of these activities. Another way to spend time outdoors is the “Grand Circuit of the Dolmens” in Prayssac, a difficult 15 km hiking route. Length and difficulty are two separate planning considerations: the distance gives the route length, while the rating indicates the level of challenge.
By arrangement, the Domaine du Théron offers a guided tour of its wine cellar followed by a wine tasting. The cellar tour and tasting are part of one program; remember to take the required arrangement into account when planning.
