Pinsac combines outdoor activities with church architecture and building history. When looking for hotels in Pinsac, consider whether you would like your stay to focus on a scenic hike, a section of the GR®81 Chemin d’Amadour, multi-day paddling or the churches. Different details matter when planning each activity: on Pech de Pinsac, trail conditions and water supplies are important; on the GR®81, distance and duration; and for canoeing, the ability to swim.

Hiking on Pech de Pinsac

The hike over Pech de Pinsac leads to viewpoints overlooking a bend in the Dordogne. Visibility depends on the weather. The climb to Pech de Pinsac and the second pech follows a very rocky path. Bring water: there is no water point on the hike over the pech.

The GR®81 Chemin d’Amadour includes an 8.5 km section from Souillac to Pinsac, with a stated duration of 1 hour 30 minutes. Check the route details again before your hike. The two hikes can be planned around different considerations: for Pech, the rocky trail and views matter; for the GR®81 section, the distance and duration are provided.

Churches and building history

The parish church of Saint-Pierre-Saint-Paul stands in the village and has a Latin-cross floor plan. The choir and both chapels have rib vaults. The floor plan and vaults describe two different aspects of the architecture: the overall shape of the church and the design of individual areas.

Features of the church include unidentified heraldic depictions and an engraved motif of a heart, an arrow, a crossed sword and two palms.

The church of Saint-Germain de Blanzaguet stands on a terrace above the Dordogne and dates from the late 12th or early 13th century. It was repaired and partly rebuilt after the Hundred Years’ War. At least the apse vault and the bell tower were renewed.

Inside, a faux ashlar decoration adorned with roses and reused carved wooden panels in the pulpit have been preserved. The churches differ in their emphasis: at Saint-Pierre-Saint-Paul, the focus is on the floor plan and vaults; at Saint-Germain, on building history, its terrace setting and interior features.

Canoe rentals for multi-day trips

Copeyre Canoë – Base de Pinsac offers canoe rentals for multi-day trips. Paddlers must be able to swim 25 metres in moving water. Before your trip, check both this swimming requirement and the latest information about multi-day rentals. This gives you a clear picture of the activity’s specific requirements when planning to include paddling in your stay.
