Marminiac: Art History and Heritage
Accommodation in Marminiac
Marminiac can be explored through art, trails and landscapes. Two artistic landmarks lead into different stories: the Jean-Marie Massou site near Les Limoges and the work of the Bissière family in Boissierette. There is also the 6.5-kilometre Circuit de Boissièrette, the Ferme de Bouteille Haut and natural features along the Ruisseau de la Masse. If you are looking for a hotel in Marminiac, you can first decide whether an art visit, a walking route or architecture will be the main focus of your trip.
Jean-Marie Massou’s site in Les Limoges
The site where Jean-Marie Massou lived is located in Les Limoges. The association Le Sidéral owns the site and is responsible for its preservation and interpretation; it also manages the rights to Massou’s works. Visits to the Jean-Marie Massou site are by appointment only. Unaccompanied visits are prohibited because the site is dangerous. Arrange your visit in advance and check the current conditions before travelling.
Art history in Boissierette
The hamlet of Boissierette was the home and workplace of two generations of artists from the Bissière family: Roger Bissière (1886–1962) and Marc-Antoine Bissière, known as Louttre.B (1926–2012). From 1965 onwards, Louttre.B installed monumental sculptures in the woods around Boissierette. He also designed the Jardin de pierres in Boissierette and built La Villa Dominique as a habitable sculpture. He designed and created the complete interior of the Église Saint-Pierre de Boissierette.
The Circuit de Boissièrette and its artworks
The Circuit de Boissièrette starts in Marminiac and is a 6.5 km circular trail in the French Promenades et Randonnées (PR) category. It leads to the hamlet of Boissièrette. Along the way, you can discover sculptures and installations by Louttre.B with an audio guide created by the artist’s family. The distance gives you a concrete indication of how long the circular route is. Le Bois des sculptures, the Jardin de pierres and La Villa Dominique are accessible year-round. Check local conditions before your visit.
Architecture and seasonal access
The Ferme de Bouteille Haut is listed as a historic monument and is a rural farm in the Quercy. The rectangular building has two square towers on its façade and a larger tower at its western corner. The Ferme has different access arrangements: its courtyard is open to the public seasonally. Check the current arrangements before your visit.
