Beauzelle between the Garonne and MEETT
Accommodation in Beauzelle
Beauzelle can be viewed from several perspectives when planning a trip: as a place on the Garonne, home to the MEETT exhibition and convention centre, and a town with a history reflected in specific dates and buildings. Its green spaces also offer a variety of experiences. If you are looking for a hotel, it helps to first decide what brings you to the area.
Green spaces on the Garonne
The Quinze Sols leisure area is a 33-hectare green space on the banks of the Garonne in Beauzelle. It was created around four decades ago and is used for recreation and leisure. The Grand Ramier de Beauzelle has a different character: the area is heavily shaded and attracts walkers and anglers at the right time of year. It is considered a family-friendly walking route.
Nature trails and cycle paths lead from the Grand Ramier along the Garonne to Toulouse and the Pont des Catalans. This makes it possible to distinguish Beauzelle’s green spaces from the longer riverside route to this destination in Toulouse. Check current conditions before setting out, as the state of the paths may change.
MEETT and reasons to travel
Beauzelle, together with Aussonne, is home to the metropolitan area’s exhibition and convention centre, MEETT. It opened in September 2020. The centre has a fully modular 40,000 m² hall that can be divided into seven separate halls. MEETT can host all kinds of events, including trade fairs, exhibitions and funfairs.
If an event is the reason for your trip, MEETT is a practical point of reference for planning. The large hall and its divisibility show how the centre can accommodate different types of events. For a stay focused on outdoor activities and nature, the Quinze Sols green space, the Grand Ramier and the paths along the Garonne offer different options.
History in Beauzelle
The painter Henri Matisse lived in Beauzelle from August 1898 to February 1899. His first son, Jean, was born there on 10 January 1899. The two dates fall within the same period: Jean’s birth in Beauzelle took place during the months his father also lived there.
Another historical trace is the Église Saint-Julien. It is believed to have been built in the 16th century, based on the date its bell was baptised. A papal bull issued by Pope Innocent XI on 17 July 1687 authorised the founding in Beauzelle of a brotherhood under the name of Saint Julian, as well as the annual celebration of his feast day on 28 August.
Routes and transport
Beauzelle is served by several bus and tram lines. These include Tisséo lines 30, 70 and 71, TAD 120, and liO line 388. As routes and service patterns may change, check the current timetable before travelling.
