Discover Laissac
Accommodation in Laissac
Laissac combines hiking and mountain biking routes with the Marché aux Bestiaux, walks around the town and historic buildings. You can plan your trip around different interests: outdoor activities, a guided look at the market or a tour exploring local history and art. The route lengths and visiting conditions vary considerably.
Hiking trails and mountain biking routes
The Sentier de la Croix de Boucays starts in Laissac and is 4 kilometres long. At the end of the trail, a viewpoint offers a view of Laissac; visibility depends on the weather and vegetation. The Chemin des Babissous is 7 kilometres long, is rated easy and leads from Laissac towards the hamlet of Molènes. Both hiking trails are available during the current visiting period. At 4 and 7 kilometres, they differ clearly in length.
For mountain biking, the Espace VTT Sport Nature du Laissagais has 10 signposted circular routes covering a total of 280 kilometres. The total distance refers to all the routes combined. Check the trail markers and conditions locally before planning your ride.
Market visits and seasonal activities
The Marché aux Bestiaux de Laissac takes place every Tuesday morning throughout the year. If you plan to visit the market during your trip, check the date again before travelling. Public visits take place as part of guided tours; access to the market is not unrestricted.
During the tours, visitors view the cattle market from a walkway above the animals. The programme also includes a close-up visit to the sheep market and a 17-minute introductory film about how the market operates. Visits are seasonal and require a reservation.
The Grotte du Clos del Pous can also be visited: guided tours take place in July and August and require a reservation. This is a limited-time offering, unlike the market, which takes place every Tuesday morning throughout the year.
Walks and local history
The Visite libre de Laissac is a 1.6-kilometre walk around the town. Access conditions may change, so check them before setting out. The Street Art Tour du Laissagais offers a different theme. This tour takes you around Laissac and introduces the story of Pomme and Germain. The tour is available during the current visiting period.
The Église Saint Félix de Laissac was built from 1878 to 1880 using stone from the Causse, on the site of the former church. The Chapelle Notre-Dame-de-Pitié – La Capelette in Laissac was built in 1860. These two buildings offer different historical starting points for exploring the town’s past.
Laissac as a stopping point
Since 2016, Laissac has held the Village Étape label and was the first village in the Aveyron department to receive this distinction. The town makes a convenient place to stop on the RN 88. Tuesday also offers a culinary attraction: the three cafés and restaurants around the Foirail serve the “petit déjeuner à la fourchette”. Participating businesses and their menus may change, so check the current offering in advance.
