Rehaupal lies in a narrow glacial valley crossed by the Barba. The landscape is defined by rocks and river; the Minoterie Viry and Église Saint-Pierre add a history of milling and stained glass. When planning a stay, these themes can be easily distinguished: a walking trail leads to the Le Trou de l’Enfer gorge, while mountain bike circuit No. 10, with its starting point and route details, offers a separate option. This lets you decide which focus best suits your trip.

Le Trou de l’Enfer Gorge

Le Trou de l’Enfer is a classified site, protected since 10 December 1910, covering 16.54 hectares. Its landscape is strewn with boulders, forming a jumble of rocks. In places, the Barba flows in rushing cascades and disappears beneath the rocks for about 200 metres. The gorge thus combines striking rock formations with a river that does not flow on the surface all the way through.

A walking trail leads to Le Trou de l’Enfer. For anyone including the site in their travel plans, it offers a clearly named hiking destination and a protected natural area with a character of its own. Its protection dates back more than a century; the protected area of 16.54 hectares indicates the extent of the classified site.

Milling tradition in Rehaupal

The Minoterie Viry, a water-powered mill, is located at Le Moulin in Rehaupal. It was built between 1949 and 1952 and is privately owned. Its construction dates and type of mill give the place a technical aspect that differs from the rocky river landscape.

At Moulin Viry, grain is grown locally and processed by a miller-farmer. This activity has continued for ten generations. Agriculture, processing and craftsmanship are therefore also among the themes that can shape a stay in Rehaupal. The Minoterie’s construction history and the grain work carried on through generations offer two different perspectives on the milling tradition.

Église Saint-Pierre de Rehaupal is adorned with stained-glass windows by glass artist Gabriel Loire. Free visits are available for individual visitors. This visiting arrangement may change temporarily, so check before your visit whether free visits are offered at the time of your trip. The name Gabriel Loire gives art enthusiasts a specific point of reference when viewing the church.

Walking and mountain biking

The red mountain bike circuit No. 10 Rehaupal–Champdray starts at Église de Rehaupal. The route is 19 kilometres long and has 510 metres of positive elevation gain. Distance and ascent are two specific details to consider when planning a bike ride. Access information may be updated if local signage changes, so check the route markers on site before setting out.

On foot, a walking trail leads to the natural attraction of Le Trou de l’Enfer; the red circuit is described as a mountain bike route with a stated length and positive elevation gain. This gives you a choice of activity focus: a walk to a named natural site or a bike ride with specified figures.
