Liézey is located in the Ballons des Vosges Regional Nature Park. The open landscape around this mountain village includes forests and meadows that are still farmed. Alongside this setting, hiking and discovery trails, as well as the village’s history, are among the area’s local attractions. If you’re looking for a hotel for a trip to Liézey, you can take these interests into account when choosing your destination: the landscape, hiking and local history offer different ways to experience the place.

Hiking trails with different themes

The Sentier de la Pésot starts at Le Page. The trail is 3 km long and takes about 1 hour and 30 minutes to walk. Along the way, there are four QR code stations and four sound installations by Compagnie Prune, based on statements by Liézey residents. The audio pieces bring voices from the village into the hike and add a cultural dimension to the trail. Check the local signage before setting out.

The Sentier des Croix offers another hike with a specified distance and duration: 7 km and 2 hours 30 minutes. Compared with the Pésot, it is four kilometres longer; based on the stated times, it takes about an hour longer to walk. The route leads past local heritage features, including wayside crosses (Croix de Chemin) and Fiarans. The trail is marked with red crosses on a white background. As markings can change, it’s worth checking the signage on site.

The Sentier des écoliers was created by pupils from Liézey’s school and their teacher, Philippe DIDIER. As a discovery trail, it introduces the varied landscapes of Liézey. Its focus on the landscape and its creation by the school community give it a different character from trails featuring sound art or cultural heritage. There are also circular routes in Liézey for hiking and mountain biking. Check the conditions on these routes before setting out.

Village history and puzzle walks

The village church in Liézey was built by residents during the French Revolution. The communal bread oven was built alongside the presbytery around 1810 in the village centre and is regarded as a testament to village solidarity in the 19th century. Together, these offer two distinct historical points of reference: the Revolutionary period and communal village life in the 19th century.

The Circuit Randoland is designed as a family scavenger-hunt walk, with puzzles and clues as part of the format. Children can use age-appropriate activity sheets for ages 4 to 6, 7 to 9, and 9 to 12. If you’re planning a visit with children, you can consider both the puzzle format and the age group each set of sheets is intended for when making your choice. Liézey therefore offers different ways to make the landscape, local culture or a puzzle theme the focus of a walk.
