Jeuxey offers several different themes for a stay: church history, restored historic objects, and a leisure area with a walking path by the pond. You can plan your visit around sacred art, local commemorative items, or a walk by the water. Each place and object has its own focus and showcases different aspects of Jeuxey’s cultural and leisure offerings.

Sainte Menne Church and its Bell

Since 1921, visitors to the Chapelle du Souvenir in Sainte Menne Church have been able to view a canvas painting mounted on wood or a wall. It is a marouflaged canvas painting, not a fresco. The distinction concerns how it was made: the image is painted on canvas and attached to a solid surface. If you are interested in sacred art, the chapel offers a clear example of this particular form of image-making.

The church is also home to a surviving small bell dating from 1852. It weighs 519 kilograms and sounds the note G3. The two church objects have different distinguishing features: the painting is notable for its material and technique, while the bell is notable for its date, weight, and pitch. Together, they provide two distinct historical points of reference for the church.

Historical Traces in the Town

You can now see Jeuxey’s historic school bell at the town hall. It differs from the small bell in Sainte Menne Church in its connection to the school and its place of display. The locations are clear: the school bell is at the town hall, while the bell dating from 1852 belongs to the church.

The calvaries were restored in collaboration between the local Association Histoire et Patrimoine de Jeuxey and the municipality. The historic washhouse and fountains were also restored; water will flow there again from spring onward. These present different aspects of local history side by side: collaboration in caring for the crosses, and the restoration of the water sources, with their seasonal flow.

A restored hand pump is displayed beneath the glass roof of the entrance hall at the salle polyvalente in Jeuxey. Its precise location distinguishes it from the historic objects at the town hall and in the church. As a technical object, it adds another aspect of local heritage to the stories of religious and school life.

Walking Path and Historic Fortification

Les Prés du Moulin is a sports and leisure area for families, inaugurated in 2014. A walking path runs around the existing pond. Unlike the individual historic objects, the focus here is on a route beside the water. Check the local conditions at the site before your visit.

The Ouvrage de Deyvillers offers a different historical theme: this intermediate fortification, built of reinforced concrete, was constructed between 1906 and 1910 at an elevation of 370 metres between Jeuxey and Deyvillers. The dates refer to a multi-year construction period; the material and elevation provide further context for the structure. This gives you a choice of distinct points of interest: sacred history, local commemorative items, a walking path, and a historic fortification.
