Discover Bulgnéville
Accommodation in Bulgnéville
Bulgnéville brings together military and agricultural collections, church art, walking trails and leisure areas. When planning a stay, you can focus on different things: for the Musée militaire, visiting hours are important; around Lac des Récollets, walking paths, discovery trails and other local attractions take centre stage. A date in May may also play a role in your travel plans. These points can help you organise your interests for your stay in Bulgnéville when looking for a hotel.
Museums and history
The Musée militaire displays objects from the First and Second World Wars. Mannequins and models depict soldiers’ lives. The collection thus combines historical objects with staged displays. For your visit, you can use the two World Wars as a chronological framework while also paying attention to how the models illustrate soldiers’ lives.
The Ecomusée Fernand Utzmann is devoted to local traditions and the production of milk and cheese. Exhibits include agricultural machinery, milk containers, cream separators, cheese vats and old tools from rural life. The range of items spans agricultural equipment and objects associated with processing milk and cheese. In this way, the museum offers a different perspective on local history from the military collection.
The church of Saint Pierre-Saint Paul houses a 15th-century depiction of the Entombment. Alongside the collections on military history and rural traditions, a work of religious art is therefore among Bulgnéville’s historical highlights.
At Lac des Récollets and on the trails
There are walking paths and discovery trails at Lac des Récollets; individual visits are free of charge. A washhouse dating from 1811 also stands near the lake. These places combine time outdoors with a specific historic building, while leaving visitors free to choose how they explore.
The marked “Entre Lacs” hiking trail starts at the Lac des Récollets car park. The route passes two lakes with completely different wildlife. The landscapes feature flora that sometimes resembles that of the Hautes Vosges. Those interested in the trail will find both a clearly identified starting point and differences in the wildlife and plant life along the way. This information describes the trail and its landscape, not a walking time or difficulty level.
Other places also offer a variety of activities. The Verger conservatoire has beehives and an educational trail. The municipal forest features a fitness trail with around twelve exercise stations. Near Lac des Récollets, the Esplanade du Févry has a leisure area with numerous children’s play facilities, a garden pavilion and benches. If these amenities are important to you during your visit, check their condition in advance; the facilities may change, including the exercise stations and the leisure area.
Planning visiting hours and dates
The Musée militaire is open for visits from May to September on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays from 3 pm to 5 pm. Visits outside these hours are possible by request. As the stated hours are seasonal and visits outside that time slot must be requested, it is advisable to confirm your preferred time before travelling.
The ham and cheese fair takes place in Bulgnéville on the third Sunday in May. If you would like to plan your stay around the fair, check the date for the relevant year. This will help you distinguish the date of the event from the Musée militaire’s seasonal visiting hours and plan the visits that matter to you accordingly.
