Woippy: Heritage, Trails and Local Produce
Accommodation in Woippy
Woippy can be explored from several perspectives: history, trails, outdoor activities and local produce. The Sentier Historique, Château de Woippy and Haute Maison offer specific themes for a cultural and historical stay. For outdoor activities, consider Parc du Pâtis and Woippy Plage; the Sentier n°6 – Les jardins des Chilloux winds through vegetable gardens and combines historic and natural features. Strawberry growing is also part of the local tradition. If you are looking for a hotel in Woippy, you can tailor your choice to your interests—from buildings and local history to walking trails and locally grown produce.
History Along Trails and at Historic Buildings
The Sentier Historique explores the town’s history and older heritage at six stops. Jaumont stone markers each display a historical text and an old photograph of the location. Each stop therefore combines historical information with an old photograph of the site. You can start at any point and walk in either direction; the route takes about an hour and a half. Guided tours are available on request.
Château de Woippy dates from the 13th to 14th centuries, while Haute Maison dates from the 15th century. Their different dates show that Woippy’s heritage spans several eras. The historical library of the Société d'Histoire de Woippy is located on Rue de Biche in a former music school. It is open to anyone interested in history; books can be borrowed by arrangement. The Société also holds free lectures.
Walking Trails and Landscapes
The Sentier n°6 – Les jardins des Chilloux is a walking trail in Woippy where you can discover historic and natural features. It winds through vegetable gardens, where strawberry growing has helped shape Woippy’s reputation and prosperity. The town’s landscape is characterized by hillsides and floodplains along the Moselle, as well as ponds, including part of the Étangs de Saint-Rémy.
Parc du Pâtis covers 15 hectares. Its enclosures are home to around 30 fallow deer, mouflons and deer. The park also includes the Labyrinthe végétal: a free maze made of 500 linear metres of hornbeam hedges. These features give the place its own character, with animal enclosures and hedge-lined paths.
Leisure Activities Around Woippy Plage
Woippy Plage opened in 2011 and covers around 20 hectares. The site lies between Parc de Berlange and Saint-Eloi. It has a free swimming area open to everyone. You can go for a walk around Woippy Plage, and the site also has a 12-hole miniature golf course. Swimming, walking and a round of miniature golf offer different ways to enjoy the area without having to focus on just one activity.
Local Produce and Activities
The family-run Potager de Bellevue grows strawberries and asparagus. You can sample the fresh produce right there. The crops are grown outdoors using a careful, seasonal approach; most of the produce is sold on the day it is harvested. If you are interested in how local products are grown and where they come from, this is a place to experience seasonal farming and sample the produce on site.
At the Centre équestre du Pâtis in Woippy Village, children and adults, with or without disabilities, can enjoy trail rides, vaulting and Equifeel. The activities may change, so check what is currently available before your visit.
