Discover Ludres
Accommodation in Ludres
When planning a trip to Ludres, you can choose from a range of interests: history, culture and outdoor activities. The Cité d’Affrique is nearby, in Messein on the municipal boundary; other themes include the Chapel of the Dukes of Ludres, performances and trails through the countryside. You can tailor your stay to the places and activities that interest you most.
Archaeology and local history
The Cité d’Affrique is located near Ludres, in the municipality of Messein on the municipal boundary. It is described as Ludres’ first archaeological evidence. The site was built around 500 BC and is considered an important archaeological site in Lorraine: it marks the transition between the Hallstatt and La Tène periods. This links a specific place with an important historical context for the region.
The Cité covers 14 hectares. Its features include around 2,000 metres of fortifications and 350 metres of steep rocky cliffs. These measurements show different aspects of the site: its area as well as the extent of the fortifications and cliffs.
The Chapel of the Dukes of Ludres in the Church of Saint-Epvre offers a different historical connection. It was built in 1630 above the family tomb. While the Cité d’Affrique marks the transition between two periods, the chapel recalls the history of the Dukes of Ludres and the family tomb.
Culture and performances
Chaudeau offers a wide range of performances for all audiences. Its stage programme complements the historical themes around Ludres. If you’d like to combine culture and history on your trip, you can explore the Cité’s archaeological significance and the history of the chapel as distinct points of interest, and include Chaudeau as another cultural option.
Trails, nature and outdoor activities
The “Secrets de la Castine” trail was created by transforming a former limestone quarry into a fun, educational discovery trail. It introduces visitors to the diverse and protected flora and fauna of the Forêt de Haye. The former quarry and the trail’s nature theme thus bring together landscape history and environmental education.
The Ludres plateau lies on the southern edge of the ForĂŞt de Haye and offers numerous trails. The ForĂŞt de Haye is home to many bird species as well as typical larger woodland animals such as hares, foxes, roe deer and wild boar. The trails on the plateau and the wildlife in the forest offer different ways to enjoy nature.
Parc Sainte-Thérèse covers 13,500 m² and is open year-round. For sports and leisure, Plateau des Loisirs is located on the heights of Ludres. It is easy to access and has a large car park.
The Dynatrail offers running and walking routes and is open to everyone. The VTT Parc du Grand Nancy in Ludres has mountain bike trails for different skill levels and riding styles: from routes for beginners to those for advanced riders, and from playful trails to technically demanding options. The facilities therefore cater to different types of activity and levels of challenge. Public operating conditions at the VTT Parc may change; check them before your ride.
