Igney: Wind Energy and Church History
Accommodation in Igney
For a stay in Igney, you can choose between two distinct themes: wind energy, with an exhibition and walking trail, and the history and stained-glass windows of the church. You can plan your trip around what interests you most: an energy project, a route through a wind farm, or local cultural heritage? These themes offer different ways to explore Igney—through an exhibition, an outdoor route, or the history of the church.
Wind energy: exhibition and walking trail
Le Haut des Ailes consists of three wind farms in Lorraine. The wind farm complex extends across four municipalities in two départements: Igney, Amenoncourt and Repaix are in the Meurthe-et-Moselle département, and Foulcrey is in the Moselle département. The complex therefore spans the boundaries of the municipalities and départements listed above.
The Le Haut des Ailes exhibition hall provides information about wind energy and the development of the project through to its completion. It is open to all visitor groups. Confirm the visiting arrangements before you travel. The exhibition therefore covers both wind energy and the development of this specific project.
The Haut des Ailes walking trail runs through the wind farm, which has a total of 22 wind turbines. In clear weather, the route offers panoramic views of the Donon massif. The trail combines views of the turbines with a vista that depends on weather conditions.
A report from May 2021 names a car park in Igney as the starting point and describes the route towards Repaix as marked with green circles. As trail markings can change, check the current route information before setting off.
The exhibition and walking trail offer different perspectives: the hall focuses on wind energy and the development of the project, while the trail passes through the turbines. If you are particularly interested in how the project developed, the exhibition is the main attraction; the walking trail offers access by route and, in clear weather, panoramic views.
Igney’s church and history
Igney’s church is considered the heart of the municipality. It was destroyed in the bombings of September 1944. While funds were being raised for its reconstruction, a temporary wooden church was built for the parishioners. Its history thus encompasses the destruction, the interim period in the wooden building, and the reconstruction.
The church interior is illuminated by six stained-glass windows with geometric designs. The choir features two stained-glass windows made by the Benoît workshop in Nancy. Alongside the geometric designs, the workshop attribution offers a specific connection to the craftsmanship of the choir’s details.
Getting there by TER
