Nouzerines: Hiking, Weaving and Farmsteads
Accommodation in Nouzerines
These themes offer different ways to shape your stay—from a day of hiking to a look at regional crafts.
Circular hike and named stops
The Nouzerines hiking trail is an easy 16.2-kilometre circular walk. Allow about 4 hours and 30 minutes for the route. The approximate walking time helps you include the circuit as a separate activity in your travel plans. It starts in Nouzerines and passes the washhouse at Lachinaud, the Fontaine Saint Clair and a manor house in Les Combes. These three named points of interest provide specific stops along the route.
For navigation, you can export GPX and KML files to a GPS device or another navigation tool. Before setting off, check whether the digital files are available. This lets you prepare for the route using your own navigation device or a suitable app.
Bocage landscape in the Haut bassin versant de l’Indre
Nouzerines is part of the Haut bassin versant de l’Indre area. Its landscape is predominantly bocage, characterized by hedgerows, numerous springs, small streams, wetlands and damp meadows. This brings the landscape itself into focus alongside the individual hiking route: the area is characterized by a changing pattern of hedgerows, waterways and wet areas. If you are interested in the surroundings, this description offers a different perspective from the specific stops on the circuit.
Romanesque architecture and weaving
The Église Saint-Clair in Nouzerines contains paintings, statues and remains of wall paintings. The Romanesque apse also features corbels. The church therefore brings together visual artworks and architectural details. The wall paintings are only partially preserved; the combination of different art forms and the Romanesque apse makes the church a specific cultural point of interest to consider when planning your trip.
The Atelier Françoise Vernaudon offers a different perspective on crafted design. The weaving workshop in Nouzerines works with horizontal looms and weaves Aubusson tapestries. Demonstrations for visitors offer an insight into this work. If you are interested in textile art, you can make weaving itself a focus, rather than planning your stay solely around a hike or a building.
Farm products and visits by appointment
La ferme de Boischevron sells goat’s cheese directly from the farm in Nouzerines, including fresh cheese and Tomme, as well as other goat’s milk products. Direct sales take place year-round; confirm the details before your visit. The products on offer differ in type: alongside fresh cheese, they also include Tomme.
Pot d’vache offers farm visits by appointment, preferably in the morning. Arrange your visit in advance. For planning purposes, there is a practical difference between the two farm offerings: La ferme de Boischevron offers direct sales of cheese and goat’s milk products, while Pot d’vache offers a visit that must be arranged in advance.
