In Seilhac, lakes, walks and cultural attractions sit side by side. At Lac de Bournazel, you can combine swimming, team sports and fishing; around Étang Neuf and on the walking trails, you can focus on other activities. The Romanesque features of Notre-Dame church and the arts association’s offerings also give the town its own cultural character.

Lakes and activities

Lac de Bournazel covers 35 hectares and is part of a tourist complex. Swimming, team sports and fishing are possible there. Étang Neuf is part of the Bournazel tourist site and is a 16-hectare pond reserved exclusively for fishing. The lakes therefore have clearly different uses: Lac de Bournazel brings together several leisure activities, while fishing is the main focus at Étang Neuf.

At Étang Neuf, you can fish for pike and roach from March to November. As fishing conditions may change, it is advisable to check them before your visit. Local associations organise fishing competitions and championships there throughout the year, including pole and carp fishing events. The format of competitions and championships may vary.

Esprit nature is based at Lac de Bournazel throughout the summer. Its offerings include archery, wakeboarding, slacklining, stand-up paddleboarding and orienteering. Activities may be available seasonally. The lake thus combines swimming, sports and fishing with a seasonal selection of other activities.

Walking and scenery

The Au pied des Monédières walking route is 23 kilometres long in total. L'eau, le vent et la pierre follows forest tracks and trails and offers views of Seilhac’s town centre. Another option is a walk around Étang Neuf. You can choose between a route with a stated total length, forest tracks with views of the town, and a loop around the pond. Check trail conditions before setting out.

A footpath connects Seilhac town centre with Lac de Bournazel, without exposing the route to road traffic. For views across the landscape, head to Puy des Ferrières: from this 543-metre-high hill, an orientation table offers a 180-degree view as far as Puy de Sancy and Puy Mary.

Church, art and médiathèque

Notre-Dame church preserves the polygonal apse and choir of an earlier Romanesque church. The choir contains figured capitals, while the side chapels date from the Gothic period. The apse and choir were listed as historic monuments by decree on 14 March 1977; the listing applies to these two architectural features.

Among Seilhac’s artworks is a statue of Saint Roch. The work, made of gilded and painted wood, dates from the 17th century and was listed as a protected object on 4 July 1975.

The Arts & Créations Seilhac association holds an annual exhibition of paintings and crafts. The association has around 30 exhibitors; the number may vary from one edition to another. Dates and venue may also vary between editions. Check details of the relevant exhibition before visiting.

The Médiathèque de Seilhac is open to everyone. Use of the facilities and consultation of documents are free; registration is required to borrow materials. Seilhac’s attractions therefore range from lakes and walks to architecture, art and public cultural offerings.
